Default Complete LS/VTEC swap guide into EG Hatch??

Im looking to possibly picking up a 93 EG hatch for a grand about 5 minutes from where i live..cars 100% stock.. The plan would be an LS/VTEC swap, i.e. speed on a budget..

Anyway..

I cant seem to find a complete swap guide to do so...my neighbor will be helping me as well as my father..because all my friends are lazy-asses

i tried search and came up with a bunch of dead links..and posts about swaps not running, etc..but cant find a full guide..

P.S. - if this is in the wrong place or frequently asked, i am sorry. i come from a long line of vw's..i couldnt be any less honda educated

That's covered about 2000 times over H-T man, just search for it.

The "how to" is the most important part. I could teach a monkey to swap a honda motor in under 4 hours. Building it properly so it will run a long time however takes a bit of time.

Good luck with the project though.

Pick up a helms. If you can get the old motor out, the new one goes in just the reverse. an engine is an engine. There's no custom fabrication required to get an LS in an eg. It's a pretty routine swap and it's been done a LOT. So if you run into problems H-T is here at the ready.

Get some mounts. Once you're into it it's pretty self-explanatory.

Can be done in a weekend with some friends, beer, and good music.

You'll have a good time.

What exactly are you asking about the swap. Dropping it in and mounting it is simple..do you want wiring information?

well i was trying to figure out is it really all "plug and play" so to speak? everything will work from the old D series motor to the B series?

im not even sure i want to do LS/vtec anymore..a local told me a b16 would be a more fun/reliable swap.

Whoever tld you a b16 would be more fun/reliable than a b18 is retarded. a b18b with a b16 tranny is a great daily driver and will spank a b16 stock for stock.

hope this helps:

and for a reliable and fun swap, any swap would do. it all depends on what you want from the car and your budget.

I was really impressed when I drove a b18b with a good tranny. Really.

How could they not be at least similar in comparison?

b16
160Hp 111Trq 10.2 Compression

b18b
145Hp 127Trq 9.4 Compression

"Horsepower sells motor cars, torque wins motor races"

I doubt either is really going to destroy the other, but for a $1500 price difference I would definateley choose the higher displacement, tourqueyer motor that i didn't have to rev to 8,000 rpms to get power out of.

Yep, under 5500rpm a B16 isn't much different than a D16, if it weren't for the real short gears it would hardly go anywhere. I had a B18B w/GSR trans, it pulled over a nice broad range. It's all about the torque, and not just peak tq but having a longer flatter tq curve. That's what the extra displacement gives you, then you toss the gearbox on that was meant to overcome the B16's weakness and voila! You got the best of everything. You can always do LS-VTEC later on when you decide you want more top end.

I'm not sure, but I think some b16 owners feelings were hurt.

Let me rephrase.. My friend boosted his b16. Its fast as hell. But you have 12 psi helping you compensate for your lack of torque.
In the all motor category Ls/vtec will take a b16.

^ Realistically, boosted the higher displacement will make more power too.

It seems there is a replacement for displacement, BOOST.

Theres a two threads as a sticky i think on "how to build a reliable ls-vtec"... I remember when I had a built ls-vtec in my eg6 hatch, it was an awesome setup. Just make sure you have an experienced ls-vtec builder do the work, have all the necessary parts, and a good tune, and no doubt you'll have a reliable beast under the hood.
