Default OT: My Infiniti M45 Review on Youtube

Posted this in here for those who don't make it into GDD and ITR.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Ross &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Some of you may know that I work for Roadfly, writing car reviews and writing/narrating video scripts.

Well, my boss came to his senses and realized that a Top Gear-style video would be much more interesting than a Motorweek-style video (disembodied voice over video of car going 10mph).

I got into work two weeks ago and was told "Get ready, you're going on camera with the M45." So I put on my best Jeremy Clarkson hat and went to work.

I didn't even have time to write a general script...we just ad-libbed the whole thing. So a lot of it is gonna sound kinda dumb. Future videos (just wrapped up Toyota Highlander and Subaru Forester) will be better.

Tell me what you think - and be honest. No one will lose user % for saying I suck

The people who inhabit car forums are our target audience, so anything you say (excluding "CRX" and "IDB") will be helpful.

Add RoadflyTV to your YouTube subscriptions! The more views we get, the easier it will be to start marketing our videos...and if we market them successfully, I can actually make a decent living!

Leave comments...add to favorites...pump up our views. Our channel is almost at 1 million views, probably thanks to you guys.

- you have a couple of "huh" hesitations, during your attempted explanation at rev matching.
- "equally as"; I'd avoid that, and say "as good as", or "equally" -- saying "equally as" is redundant.
- too much time spent on the cargo net. really.
- should have pointed out the hydraulic trunk lift, instead of the space hogging typical hinges.

otherwise, good job! especially for an ad-lib.

Dang, you think an English major would know that! Leave it to a Frenchman to school me in my own language

The net, I totally agree...we had another clip which was concise, and funny (it involved me sticking my head through the trunk pass-through) but my boss cut it out because it was too unprofessional. So we had to find something to fill that space.

Thanks for the advice.

I thought it was very good, a lot better than I expected. As SJR said, the "uh's" were the only problem I saw.

Well made video, great job!

I think you have a great speaking voice, really... very impressive and perfect for on screen talent. But the delivery(scripting/or outline in this case) was weak, like you were searching for things to say(Color/adjectives). But I understand since you described not preparing for the editorial. I didn't watch the entire broadcast however I think as a journalist(specially a journalist that occupies a niche as in this case) you need to embrace and exhibit CORRECT behavior and technique for whatever that niche is. I was dismayed at the way you were driving the car... and while only the truly knowledgeable will pick up on it, the overall effect of bad technique/skill sets is one that subliminally transmits an expression of sloppiness of an amateur broadcaster. For example... if I watch a show about hunting I don't want to tune in to see buba wildy waving a 00 .12 gauge around, sweeping across the back of Vana Whites head just before he takes a swig of moonshine. I know in the back of my mind this is incorrect behavior and I would revere that persons editorial skills with irreverence...

If that makes any sense

Well, you're not the first person to tell me that I should be on TV. That's been a surprising byproduct of all this.

And the writer does suck (it's me ) There really were no lines...we just set the camera up, and put me in the driver's seat and started rolling. Not only was it totally ad-libbed, but the driving footage was my first piece of seat time in that particular car. Next time we will have more time to prepare, and therefore better "color" as you aptly called it.

We have a Subrau Forester and Toyota Highlander coming up...but in 2 weeks we start shooting our BMW 650i video I will incorporate much of what you guys have said, thanks for all the advice.

Other than what has already been said my only real gripe is more just a pet peeve of mine. It bugs me when some one chooses to bring up a subject to talk about why it is good/better and instead of actually talking about anything specific they just say that it is "technologically advanced". It's sort of stating the obvious and tends to make me think that there really isn't anything that good about the subject in question in comparison to anything else on the market.

Like I said not a big deal, just a little pet peeve of mine.

Future movies will have more tech. I hate vague drivel as much as the next guy.
