EX isuspsention is killing me; keep thinking I should have got the SI
Its like this. I love my civic man... love it. I had a 99 Durango before it that was killing me on gas (and the environment). I wanted something that was fun to drive like my 87 cavalier z24 and got good mileage. The new civics just straight up blew me away. The dual layer dash, the body, everything about them is sick. Anyway, I test drove both, the si first then the ex (manual). I knew everything about the cars before going in but while driving I I couldn't tell the difference in suspension or other performance features. (It was a short, slow test drive). I kept wanting to wind the si up but couldn't because we were in a business park. Anyway, I went with the EX (better mileage, lower emissions) but man do I keep thinking of that damn si..
you know, I can look past not having the close-ratio tranny, the more powerful engine that has a high redline, and sounds......well, just plain insane; but the crappy suspension on the ex is killing me. I had less body roll going around on/off ramps with my durango and explorer.
I see a lot of information on modifying the si on this forum but not the ex
It is my understanding that the ex and si are pretty much the same frame and body wise. So any part that is prescribed for the Si can be for the EX. Is this correct? Is it possible to modify the suspension on the ex so it handles like an si (or better). I can afford to with the extra money I saved by going with the ex..
..while I'm at it I'll think I'll throw on some new 17in black rims too
Thanks in advance in any replies
peace nukkas!

yeah, i have an ex, but i bought the hfp suspension for it. however i never installed it and gave the car to my wife. i have a TW fg2 si on order. should have gotten the si to begin with. but si will not be a softer ride, that i can promise but it will take turns with ease, look into some lowering springs to stiffen up the ride or a suspension.

my ex does the same thing, always feel like the road is too bumpy. Don't worry about not getting enough power and sound and stuff. Wait a couple of years when the mods comes out and your warranty runs out, you can mod the crap out of your ex and be just like a stock si or maybe even better. I think there is already a turbo kit for us ex/dx/lx from AJP if I'm not mistaken.

Buy that & in addition pick up a progress rear sway.
Putting 17's on it will only made your ride harsher.

yeah, I'm not concered with a bumpy ride at all - I want to bomb around windy turns, that's it. As far as that HFP package goes its the whole kit right? The shocks AND springs? Cause that website has them for a blowout price of $480. Not to shabby....
Try not to beat yourself up by thinking you made the wrong decision. Buyer's remorse is common and just takes a little bit of time to forget about.
As far as the suspension problem, I would either invest in an HFP suspension kit or if you think its a manufacturing error, just take it back to Honda and see what they can do.

If you're going to be regretting the EX for a long time, just go ahead now and trade it in while the value is still high. I stayed with my LX for about 8 months before I finally just said F it and bought an SI. Best decision EVER, and clearly worth the 500 ish I pay a month for it (700 Down, 36 months @ 3.9). Even with a better set of springs, the EX just won't do it for you if you want performance, handling, an 8k RPM redline. Just hearing the Vtec crossover in the SI makes it all worth it for me (It always disappointed me that the base civics had absolutely no difference in performance/sound when you crossed over into "Vtec").
elohel: I keep thinking about that but I'm sure the value of the car has dropped significantly even though I don't have 1000 miles yet on the car. The fact that its not a new car anymore - I'm probably loking to loose 2 g's.
If you dont mind me asking, what type of figure they gave you for you lx?

since the si and ex have the same frame and body, is the HFP suspension that you are getting for the si the same I'd get for the ex?
If I can put an si suspension on the ex then the HFP kit should be the same across the board. Yes/No?

I didn't actually trade in my LX, I just bought an SI in addition to it. The LX is a good commuter for my wife around the town, because the accord is a gas hog and the oddssey (mini van) isn't practical to be driving all th etime. And yes, there are 4 cars in our house of 2 drivers now
Yes you will lose SOME money. However, if yo uhave less than a thousand miles on it.. you can sell it for practically the same price you bought it for (assuming you paid a fair price on it) if you sell it PRIVATELY. Do not dealer trade, you're just asking to be bent over and fucked. Hard.
So if you bought it for say 19, you could easily get away with selling it for 18-18,300 or so since it's still very new. These civics are in hot demand, and people are cheap. So if someone sees a chance to save a grand for a few hundred miles, they will jump on it.
Also.. if you are thinking about trading up, go in at the end of the month. I can't stress this enough.. every dealership around me refused to go lower than 21,885 for a new Si. I waited until the 28th of april to get my SI (last weekend of the month, in MN you can't buy a car on sunday, which only left monday open for their last day that month). With several SI's on the lot, I walked in and said I wanted it for 19,500 with the ipod music-link and mudguards, and a grand for my trade-in that was worth less than 500 dollars. They took the offer no questions asked. Good luck

I got $12,500 for my 05 LX with 24,000 miles on it, which is a little more than bluebook value. So check the Kelly Blue Book and the "good" condition value should be your bottom line.
