Bringing a head to a machine shop?
I'm looking into doing a headgasket change, but i'm not sure what the process is for resurfacing a head.
How do you bring in the engine head? Do you bring it in completely dissassembled for them to resurface it?
Or... what can you leave in..?

where we did it at the stealership i worked at we left the head alone as in pull off the block and set it , they will hot tank it resurface it etc for free, just to get the dirt/junk off of it, take it in a tubaware container upside down to prevent furthere dmage to the mating surface if thats the ONLY thing your going for, id have them check it out also becuse it could of been the valve stem seals leaking (if you were burining oil) coulda been the valve seats or bent valves depending on what you did the headgasket/rip apart for
Well, the car is all stock, i'm not sure what happened but the headgasket blew, perhaps to low coolant (I don't own the car).
I just want to have the gasket surface resurfaced on the head itself, no porting/polishing or hottanking, just a nice, clean, even surface.
Can I leave the entire valvetrain assembly in?

Hell, you can leave the valve cover on. They're just going to give the mating service a once over with an air ratchet and a hard rubber pad.
