Default 250 ninja preformance

just wondering, how much of a difference new exhaust system, k&n filters, and a jet kit would make. i know i will eventually get a new exhaust since everyone tells me loud pipes saves lives, but how much extra HP can this combo put out? thanks

Not much. Your bike will have a little bit more of a growl, but the main savings will be in terms of weight when you drop the stock pipes. I believe the centerstand is also a big source of weight.

In the end, it's a 250 parallel twin, and you're not going to get the power of a 600 out of it. Just ride it and enjoy it.

There's really not point in modding a 250. It's a starter bike.
The ninja only makes 18ft lbs of torque at 10k rpms. You may be able to squeeze a couple horsepower out of it with an exhaust and air filter, but frankly, it's not worth the money.
You spend $500 on mods for the ninja, or you can sell it and put that $500 towards a faster bike.

Loud pipes don't save lives by the way. That's a dumb motto somebody made up as an excuse for their ear deafening exhaust. Motorcyclists have to worry about the people in front of them not seeing them, not the people behind them, necessarily. More accidents are caused by people turning in front of motorcycles than anything else. Since exhausts face backwards all the sound goes backwards. Defeats the purpose of the motto.

Save your money.

Sounds like a Harley excuse. Must be to make up for the crap bikes they ride.

I would get rid of the airbox and put some pod filters on the carbs. Not because you get a boost in power, but because it makes things 1000 times easier to work on.

Don't mess with modding a 250. Buy yourself some leather, or if you've already got nice gear, save it for a new bike. Or a speeding ticket. Whatever, just don't waste it on sporting up a 250.

yeah, generally money spent modding is money you'll never get back, so unless you plan to keep the bike forever, you'd might as well just save up for your next bike.

its also hard to get the bike to run just right (no flat spots in the power) after modding it since its carb'd.

+1

I thought it was a joke thread when I first read it. My starter bike was a Ninja500R and even that thing was sluggish. Save your money.
