Default tranny shifter rod

Hello I was gonna change my tranny oil the other day, when I got under the car I saw oil residue(not sure on the spelling) around where the shifter rod enters the tranny.how would I fix this with out taking this to a shop? does anyone here have a HOW TO or a DIY write up on this? I did a search and saw a post but it was not detailed on how to fix it.last question is this big enough problem that i should change it out asap?

easy fix. replace the shift rod seal. remove the shift linkage and pop out the seal and tap in the new one. only thing that might give you a problem is the spring pin holding the linkage to the rod.

You are safe, as long as enough fluid didn't leak out to make your tranny be on a low level. Looks like a small leak anyway.
