Default Is he full of it?

I was posting on another forum and this convo went down. I think hes full of ****. A D15 is nothing special IMO.

Other guy - My brother got a D15b longblock from hmotors about 3 years ago for 375 plus shipping. Awesome engine IMO.

Me - Dude a D15 aint ****, thats what Ive got now. The 12 second 0-60 wonder.

Other guy - noooooo you have a d15b7, my brother has a d15b.

Me - A D15 is a D15 is a D15 man.

Other guy - B nothing just d15b. It came in the VTI. Picture a D16z6 with a better rod/stroke ratio and you have the d15b. It has more power and torque than the z6 if I remember correctly. so no a d15 is not a d15. As Jeezy says, "I do this ****".

Other guy is correct. Go to hmotors and search for the d15b. It's an OBD1 SOHC VTEC motor.

D16Z6
Power : 125 hp @ 6500 rpm & 106 ft·lbf @ 5200 rpm
D15B
Power : 130 hp @ 6800 rpm & 102 ft·lbf @ 5200 rpm
D15B7
Power : 102 hp @ 5900 rpm & 98 ft·lbf @ 5000 rpm

There's the numbers, with no opinions attached, because the D15B vs D16Z6 argument is a heated and horrible stalemate.

I myself have switched over from the D15B7 to the D15B VTEC and love it. It's like a totally different car.

So a 28 HP and 4 ft-lbf power difference is that noticable? Of course Ive never even rode in a Vtec car so...

It's no B-series swap, but its the difference between a DX and an Si. About the price of a cat back exhaust and a hell of a lot better investment.

No no, don't mistake. It's like a totally different car, but the raise in power isn't super noticeable. She's faster now, but I never got the engine with the intent to get a significant raise in power, that's what my turbo kit's gonna be for.

it will be noticeable (but, not very until you're in the upper RPMs). What accounts for the big difference is the tranny. I believe the JDM d15b has the same tranny as the z6 which has tighter gearing and a closer final drive over your non vtec tranny.
