Default Ball Joint problem on 97 cx NEED HELP ASAP!

hey guys i have a problem. i bent my wheel studs on the front drivers side tire. so went out and got new studs and started taking everything apart. i got the top and steering hub off no problem. the bottom one was a bitch though. i had to hammer it quite a bit to get it out. long story short, the new studs are on and i reassembled everything and got to the bottom bolt and it was mushroomed a little bit and the nut wont go on. i tried to file the bolt down but no luck. i tried hammering it on and it just spins the bolt instead of locking into the threads.

what can i do to fix this? do i need to replace the ball joint itself? is that something i can do in my driveway or do i need ot take it to a shop? any advice would be awesome. please let me know asap!

did you bash the stud itself to get it out? smrt
a die isnt going to fix crap if you mushroom'd the tip

Yeah, you have to replace the lower ball joint. Its not hard, just time consuming.
I suggest removing the entire knuckle, you have to remove the axle to get the joint out anyway, might as well make it easier on yourself.
(just unbolt the caliper and hang it, so you dont have to mess with the fluid)

First, look to see if your joint has a circlip holding it in place, if so, remove it...
Then, hit the stud to knock the whole joint up out of the knuckle (doesnt matter what happens to it now, you have to replace it anyway, right?)
Sometimes, you can tap a new joint in with a hammer...most of the time, no.
Call your autozone or better parts store and see if they rent a Honda ball joint adapter, for their ball joint press kit. If they dont, youre going to have to take the knuckle into a shop and have the joint pressed in

i appreciate the info. everything was already removed once. the problem was that when removed it i hit the lower ball joint bolt too hard and it f'ed up the tip and now im not able to get the castle nut onto the bolt. i already went to auto zone and got a new ball joint. im going to assume that i cant press it on iwth a C clamp, so i guess i'll just have ot break everything back down and take it to a brake shop or something.

and i always try to let the brakes hang so i dont have to mess with any fluids. the removal was extremely easy up until i got to the 2 bolts that hold the pads to the rotor. that **** was rusted and didnt wanna budge for anything. no air tools sucks. everything is off now and im going to have to go take it somewhere on my way to work and hope they dont charge too much

you can try a c-clamp, just attach a deep socket to the end of it
Ive never done it that way, but always wanted to give it a shot
