looking at getting another bike...
right now i have a 03' 919 which is an ok bike, ive been riding for 3 years now and i want to get into riding the track as ive stated in previous threads. the suspension on my 03' 919 SUCKS! for some reason they decided to make it non adjustable up until 2003. ive been riding friends bikes now and then and they all feel soooo much better all around even if they have less power. i would like to go out and just buy a 07' RR but i cant see that happening right now. how would you guys compare the 650 (that have ridden one) to the 600cc class bikes?
aren't you the guy who was looking at puting a turbo on your bike? gave up on that idea? if you are asking about the sv650 i can't stop praising it. i like it better than my r6 because the power band is so much smoother and predictable so i personally am able to make better use out of the power at hand. once i get all the mods put on it, it should be able to corner as well as any 600sport bike and have a much more usable powerband.

yeah i ended up selling all the parts i had accumulated... It was just gonna cost way more then i originally anticipated and crank on the 919 isnt the same as the 900 blah blah blah...
Ill be honest, i don't care for naked bikes. i have a 919 but i got it for real cheep so i couldn't resist the price. if i got a 650 i would half to put a fairing kit on it. Ive never ridden a V2 but i hear good things. when you say "all the mods" what are you talking about exactly?

i ride around a carb'd 650 once a week and honestly, the low end is nice, but i'd rather have a 600 for the track.
at this point any of the FI 600's would be a good track bike, and i'm very intruiged by the 636 to tell you the truth.
what can i say, i love the cheater motors...

why just work on the pogo's and weight instead of just dumping the whole bike. If you want to track... its not the bike it's the rider. when you get experience then you can make a better decision. In this way you can learn about set up and what makes a bike tick(handle)

You could throw an RC51 front end on your 919 and get an ohlins shock and that would take care of the suspension. But your 919's motor is never going to feel like your buddies 600cc sport bikes.
If you want a 650 then go for it. They can be any bike you want them to be.
Naked, full faired, half faired, track bikes, street bikes, touring bikes. Everything.
But, you have to make them that. The SVs suspension sucks harder than the 919s stock and is soft for anyone unless they weigh like 100 lbs. There's fixes for that, like a $100 set of springs and some new fork oil. Mods you can do at home.
You can pick up a GSXR shock for $40 and mount that and Bam, your suspension is a whole lot better.
I personally love vtwins. I love having torque all the time. I love how little the SV is and how flickable it is.
I just did a 500 mile trip on mine last weekend and during the last 10 miles a guy on a cbr1000rr was riding next to me. He went to pass a car over the dotted line and i watched him down shift, so i downshifted in to 5th (about 7k rpms) and hammered down. Stayed right with him. I'm sure he wasn't even close to full throttling it. But anytime he opened up the throttle a little in 6th gear i followed suit and kept right up with him.
The 1000 would smoke me no doubt, but the point is i don't feel like i could have done that with my F4i. I remember when i wanted to suddenly pass something on the F4i i would downshift at least twice, and then i could get going. With the SV i can give the throttle a quick yank in 6th and suddenly be going 15mph faster than i was.
I just love how much you can customize an SV and make it an individual bike.
My buddy and I went riding last weekend with our SVs and nobody ever realized they were the same bike. The all though we had completely different make and models.

it comes down to what u want. vtwin or inline 4? what kind of money are u looking to spend? if ur on a tight budget u wont beat the sv. a few suspension mods and tire selection and ur ready for the track.

as i stand now, im sure 95% of you who have been to the track are better then me in the turns. As for everyone else, I cant find a single person who can close to keeping up with me on my 919 in the twisties. I was just riding with a guy the other day with an 07' 600RR who has been riding for about 2 years now. so i think my riding skill at this point in time is pretty decent but i know will greatly improve with track days. riding a 2000 carbed 600 in comparison to my 919 feels like night and day.

hey what im trying to say is that though i may not and know im not the best rider out there I can still own every rider ive ridden with so far this season no matter what kinda bike they got. I would love to ride with better riders but i cant seem to find them anywhere...

my friend just bought a 675 and put on the Ti arrow exhaust. i think its one of the greatest bikes ive ever seen. crazy thing is, it only weighs 363 dry stock (w/o the Ti which is another 20 or so lbs) when sitting on the bike it feels narrower then the 999s but is a inline-3. amazing bike
after removing unneeded stuff, how much are you guys with 650s dropping the weight to?

Haha oh alright, well then yes that would have made more sense to me.

weight savings on the 650 is expensive. The sv is 428 wet. If you do a full system, which doesn't give you that much horsepower for how much you pay, you're saving a few pounds. But that's about it. You can buy light weight wheels, wave rotors, and carbon bits for everything, but it's not going to change much. The SV is a light bike to being with.
Focus more on suspension mods and you'll have a good time with the 650.

A lot of people are into the V-twin....but I'd challenge you to try out a V-4 bike instead. IMO, they've got the best overall torque curve available...the only downside? Weight.
