Default spark plugs

can someone here please tell me why the spark plugs for the integra type R is so insanely expensive compared to other platinum plugs made by NGK?

I orders a set of 4 from the dealership only to find out that they were chargin $18/plug!

I looked at the plugs and the writing on them is a different color than that of the normal ngk platinums. The writing is in blue and the electrode looks like it also has a nub of platinum on it.

Are these really worth it or can I simply go to Canadian tire and buy a set of NGK G power platinum's for 8.99 a pair?

Thanks

well here is the scenario. As I was taught by a friend of mine all vtec B series motors can interchange plugs. I was actually at honda and I ordered a set of plugs for 00 Civic SiR w/ B16A engine. I called Acura to ask about the plugs for a 96 integra LS with B18B1 and they both use the same plug. I just can't believe how expensive the platinum plug is in comparison to what you can buy at the local automotive supply house.

I guess what I'm really asking is what is the difference between the NGK G power series or even the NGK iridium plugs vs. the honda boxed NGK platinums?

THe only thing I can clearly see is the writing on the insulator is blue and NOT green like most NGK's and that the ground electrode has a flat round spot that looks like a nub of platinum. Could that nub make that much of a difference in the overall plug design and performance/reliability?

I do realize that b/c honda/acura sells the plug that they can charge a premium but when you think about it... I can buy the honda boxed NGK's regular V groove plugs for cheaper than I can at Canadian Tire. The question then comes up, how much markup could there really be on plugs to create that much of a differential in price on their plantinum series?

Can anyone here shed some light on this?

If you dont mind changing your plugs a bit more frequently, just go with some cheap ngk coppers.

I would rather buy $1.50 a piece plugs and change them more frequently.
Generally the cost of a spark plug is relative to its expected lifetime.
The more you pay the longer it should last.
After 6 months in my car, all plugs suck. I'd rather spend 8$ than $60+.
