taking my 94 hatch to REF for motor, and have a question....
sorry for the long *** question, but please take the time and read it so u can help me
hey guys, im taking in my hatch with a 94 LS motor in it to REF, i took the car there a while back and it didnt pass the emissions test, it was off by a lot, mostly in part because i was using a bad cat... also the referee told me to get a new cat thats for the motor, because it matters, does it really matter??? because when i took it in, i had a the cat from a single cam motor, does it really matter? so i parked the car for a few months and now i want to get driving it again and i plan to take it back to ref, so i plan on taking two cats, i bought a brand new OEM cat meant for the LS motor, and im welding a second cat from a single cam thats in good condition, i also replaced my map sensor, and put a brand new o2 OEM sensor, what do you guys think??? thanks in advance!

Post all of your emissions readings. Not just the ones you failed for. also did you fail any part of the visual or functional test?? Also you can only have one catalytic converter on your car when you go to the ref. If you have you have two they will fail you for having a modified exhaust since the LS only came with one cat.

did it, changed spark plugs, oil, oil filter, cap and rotor, spark plug wires, map sensor, and oem o2 sensor.

EDIT: no i didnt fail visual or mechanical, only the emissions part
heres the readings from when i went
CO2= 13.6(15mph) and 12.9(25mph)
O2= 1.9(15mph) and 1.4(25mph)
HC= 43(15mph) and 90(25mph)
CO= .05(15mph) and 1.70(25mph)
NO= 1905(15mph) and 1504(25mph)
when the REF came out to tell me the news, he told me about running two cats, so idk im really confused.
also, another question: do cats really matter as to what motor theyre meant for? because if they do, last time i went to the ref i was using a SOHC cat, and now i have a bran new cat thats meant for the LS, its oem.
any help??
thanks for the replies!!!

there are different types of cat converters... two way cat's and three way cat's and ****.. soo the LS probably has a different type of cat converter.

go back with just the one new LS catalytic converter on the car and it should pass now. your emmissoins readings are very typical for a car with a bad cat. you should be fine now.

no need for other suggestions at this point. I have been performing smog repairs for five years in california, and trust me.. you should be good to go now.
