Default raspy exhaust!

as stated my exhaust is pretty raspy inbetween 2500 and 3500rpm range. it sounds like its resinating in the pipe its full 2in with a honda resinator off of a acura tl and exhaust custom made from the tl also!No cat
do you think if I added a cherry bomb would it quite it down a bit since its a glass pack. I dont care if its a bit louder I just want it to be a cleaner sound not sound like a fucken can

put on a high flow cat. also the cherry bombs are not good because the packing inside of it will just burn out if you don't have a cat and it will be raspy again.

glass packs are really cheap and you may need to replace it eventually, but it will do more to get rid of that raspy weed-eater sound that a high-flow cat will IMO.

removing your cat will always make the exhaust raspy with a loud muffler.. i think it might be raspy with a highflow aswell.

I've had a glasspack with no cat for about a year now with no problems, and it makes my b16 sound mean as hell, everyone tells me my exhaust sounds perfect

this is not accurate at all...i live in south carolina, and a catalytic converter does NOT have to be on your car...so of course, no cat = more power, so not alot of people have them down here, SAME WITH ME...i dont have one...my exhaust IS NOT raspy at all...it sounds reaaaaally good, deep low, and when vtec engages, loud as hell...depends on the size piping and condition of the piping...i have 2.5" piping with no cat and it sounds AMAZING....couldnt be any happier...dings and holes in your exhaust piping can make it raspy or sound "dead"

good luck

just get a real exhaust system, or if its legal, do a custom 2.5" one...

skunk2 makes a good exhaust system

If you are keeping your muffler, adding a glasspack will only mellow the sound... not sure why someone says it will sound like crap. If you have ONLY a glasspack, well that will sound loud and raspy. I say to go ahead and install the glasspack behind the cat and in front of the first 90deg bend. Make sure that the little snarls inside the glasspack are open towards the front.

I know that I'm a noob here, but I must point out something about this post, and I'm going to hop up on a sopabox for a minute.

You're saying that in SC you don't have to have a cat? That's just bad information there. perhaps you don't have emmisions testing, but it's a federal law that requires you to have a cat, not state.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
Q: What may happen if I don't use the correct converter?

A:
First, it is a violation of Federal law because it is likely to increase the amount of pollution
coming out of the vehicle. Penalties for violations by individuals, service or repair shops or fleet
operatorsareup to $2,500 per violation. (Each improper installation is considered a violation.) New
car dealers can be penalized up to $25,000 per violation. Any person who causes a violation could
be subject to the same penalty as the installer.</TD></TR></TABLE>

This information comes from the EPA document located here:

I'm not trying to start a pissing match, but it's just senseless to run without a cat. The newer ones don't harm flow that much. If the muscle car guys can make cats work on big blocks you should be able to figure out how to run one on a Honda 4 cyl motor without a huge performance penalty.

I'll get off my sopabox now.

OK...FIRST OF ALL, the crx's are old....obviously not new cat in the exhaust....and second....YES I KNOW ITS A FEDERAL LAW...but if they dont check it here in SC...y not take it off to gain a few more little horespower. If they checked it...i would put one back on lol...its not that hard, emissions dont matter here... -_-

The 1 horsepower you gain from taking off a cat is not worth it in my opinion

and also if you put a cherrybomb on make sure you move it far back enough that its past the shifter i ran into a problem now i have to take my exhaust back down and move the cherry bomb back

buddy club is a waste of money, you couldnt just got a muffler shop to make you an axle back for like 40 bucks.

all the cars iv hear with no cats have been raspy as hell.

im not an expert but just because your state doesnt do e test doesnt mean you can take the cat off.. and ya your not goign to gain more then 2 or 3 hp out of it so its not worth it unless its clogged.

well I went to the muffler shop today and asked the guy if a cherry bomb would quite the rasp he said yea it would but part of the rasp is from not having a cat. Im not putting a cat back on though. the cat I had was clogged so mhhm cat. anyways. I bought the cherry bomb and its gonna go on tomorrow. if that doesnt kill the sound I guess Im **** outta luck till I have a lot of time to make a custom set up when I get my welder. and for the guys who say buddy club and ****.
sorry But Im not gonna go out and buy an exhaust system that cost me the same amoutn as my car.

so just because they don't check that makes it OK?
that's just ignorant.
The cat was there for a reason, maybe because without it your NOx and CO emmisions skyrocket. I'm not a global warming freak, but you're just pumping out emmisions.
I will proceed to call you a moron and leave it at that.
