Default Replacing cat with test pipe on 97 F22b2 - gains/sound changes?

Living in a smog-test-free state, I figure I might as well drop my cat and put in a test pipe. First, is there any point to paying heavy cash for one of these things, or is a no-name made of good quality metal good enough? Are power gains noticeable at all? Lastly, will it make my car noticeably louder? I want to keep this car relatively quiet during normal driving, I don't care for the "bohhh" noise that 4 cyls make with anything but a stockish exhaust.

why?!
No gains.... just loss.... matter fact... loss not just for you, but for all living forms of life around the surface of the planet. Have you ever heard of the "green house effect"????

Get a magnaflow cat or a random technology one! Those are the ones who actually will do good for the car.

Please "secret chimp", don't put a "test pipe" on your car.... just go with a magnaflow or random technology high performace cats.
A high performance cat will increase the air flow, but will take care of your emission of gases (won't keep the car from spitting co2 to the atmosphere, but hey... you do what you can right?!..).
They can make the car a little louder when you are reaching higher rpms.... starting at 4500 and so. But won't sound crispy.....

Heh, alright then. I was stuck with a Subaru Outback before this car so I don't know much about tuning, that's why I'm here

Well then I guess since these guys only tell you "NO DON'T DO IT - IT'S BAD BAD BAD!!" I will concur.

I have a test pipe with a full 2.5" catback exhaust system on my car. The only thing that happens is the CEL will come on because there is no catalytic converter in your car. All the unburned gasses will get expelled into the air and more likely than not you will have a carbon spot on your bumper...which will wash off by the way.

I don't really know of the gains you get with one...they are just to free up air flow so maybe 1 or 2 horse will be added to your car. Nothing major though. But I really don't know like I said because I did everything at once....intake, header, test pipe and exhaust.

As for the noise, since you are freeing up airflow you will have a noticably louder sound. Some people say that they get a really high pitched (whiney like a Civic) sound from a test pipe, but I haven't had that....just a nice deep tone, even at high RPM's.

So it's really up to you whether you want to get one or not. They're what - $20 or so? Or get a shop to make one....it's just a pipe with flanges on the end.

Where is your secondary o2 sensor located? With my header/test pipe combo, it moved the o2 sensor toward the end of the down pipe.

on the 5th gen accords theres not an o2 sensor on the cat..theres one before and after..not on the cat...like 98savage said its up to you whether you do it or not..cars arent good for the environment period so its not gonna hurt it much more than it already is..you probably wont notice any difference besides sound level. course I dont have one I just know ppl that do. So I guess I really wouldnt know for 100%

I think you didn't understand the point here. I am not hating. It's just that, this world is going through some very extreme conditions caused by US, humans... when WE do things such as DRIVE our CARS and some much more. It's not about being a tree hugger, it's about being conscious of the things that WILL affect the earth.
What do my part as a human, sometimes walk to work.... takes 1 hours but hey... have nothing to loose but calories right?!
So it's not about doing whatever you feel like, because people like YOU is what makes me afraid that we, as PEOPLE.. won't be able to work together to reverse the problem that we ARE already suffering from, so don't be selfish, be smart.
And by the way, do not take this offensevely, because it's going to help you, me, and everyone else.
Thanks, and peace!

I'm not a blow-smoke-out-of-everything person, but at the same time there are plenty of huge Super Duties around here with catalytic converters doing several times more damage than a little Honda without one would
