so my car for lack of a better way to explain it sounds like a muscle car and get sno power till about 3.5k rpm (it bogs before that) when i get below 3k in any gear it like makes pop noises out the exhaust, not misfiring but i took it to a mechanic and he said the cat looks like the car is running rich and he said as for the muscle car thing he said doing a tune up (plugs, wire, cap , rotor) should fix that. I've not had to deal with this problem yet so let me know how to fix this kinda stuff please. if you have any questions i'll be glad to answer, i need the help after all. TIA

 

MAP sensor is shot. Also cheack your O2 sensors. Are you getting any CELs?

When the MAP sensor goes bad or isnt functioning properly, it will cause a bad mix\input of fuel, causing jerky motions, shuddering, stalling, shaking, and backfiring/misfiring.

For some reason, Non-functioning O2 sensors have been associated with this situation as well, because they read for air\fuel mix in the exhaust, and adjust the fuel input according to that.

 

ok so im going to get a new map sensor, and 02 sensor. the cat is shot so im replacing it as well. your sure this will fix the problem or is that just what it is sounding like ?

 

o sorry , i'm not gettting any cel's. occasionally the light comes on but when i turn the car off and back on to check the code it goes away.

 

Yea, if its an inconsistent CEL, sounds like its partially broken.
You must be experiencing the symptoms of really bad gas mileage, lots of black smoke out the tailpipes, shaky ildes ( obvious from shuddering) and black soot all over the back of the car, are you not?

 

well i've got the bad gas mileage, no smoke that i've seen and my muffler is a coffee can almost but it is filled with soot

 

Replace your MAP and 02 sensor(s), reset your ECU, and see where that gets you, and keep us posted.

 

Looks like you are running rich. Engine check light comes on, but when you turn the car off and turn it back on it goes away. Same thing happen to me. I check the code and it was code 43, fuel supply. But my car didn't bog. Did you gap your spark plug?

 

i just got a new cat because i needed one anyways to pass inspection. i also changed the spark plugs and found oil in spark plug hole #1 so im gonna install new seals and hopefully that fixes everything.
