Default Cam sprocket and Valve lash

I have an unknown brand cam sprocket with no degree markings on it. My cam timings are advanced. Can I still adjust my individual valve lash by positioning my sprockets to TDC? The cam sprockets should not affect the valve opening/ closing on the compression stroke? If so, how do I go about with my valve lash adjustments? Please advise.

Yes. Find TDC for each cyl and adjust valve lash. If you need an easy way to find TDC without the cam gear markings, stick a wooden dowel down the spark plug tube, or a long screwdriver, and you should be able to tell based on when its up all the way. Regardless if your timing as advanced, the valve lash adjustment is relative to TDC.

Thanks Andyt for that prompt reply.

Although valve lash is relative to TDC, TDC can be that of the exhaust stroke. For that scenario, there will be valve overlap. That would be the TDC not to adjust valve lash. Am I right to say that?

Correct. I hope you can figure out which part of the cycle you are in...I mean, you are adjusting valves after all...

Okay, I've adjusted my tappets. Most of them were in spec. I am still getting that knocking sound on deceleration. What else could be the problem?

You can spend alot of time chasing down annoying noises.
Have you had a friend rev the engine for you while you are standing over it listening?
Have you used a stethoscope, or some other tool to help you figure out exactly where the noise is coming from? Trying to debug somebody elses car problem remotely over the Internet when "sounds" are the only symptom is quite f'ing difficult. Do you have a stock ECU around that you could swap back in temporarily?

Yes, I have a stock ECU which I can swap back. Problem is will the engine run fine(without banging) with H22 injectors and 12.5CR? The rest is basically stock ITR.
