Default tach jumping?

I was driving my GSR today and decided to punch it on the freeway. I have noticed when taking off from first gear it is pretty gutless until it hits vtec then you can feel it pull.
I downshifted into third and was at about 4000 rpms, give it WOT hit vtec and at about 6500 rpms the tach starts acting very strange. It will go to 6500 and stay there, then in a few seconds hit like 7500 then 8k. It is only noticeable in third or higher gears but after doing a first gear run it seemed to do it too, but not as noticeable because the gear is so much shorter.
What do you guys think the problem could be?
thanks

Is just the tach jumping or is your motor struggling in those rpm ranges?

This is a common problem with integras. Check your grounds for the ecu, and also check the insulation on the wires coming from distributor.
