Default Problems with my intake interfering with strut bar.

I'm just starting to learn and improving my car (personally i'm reading up about Mini-me and it sound more interesting then just swap, plus within my teaching salary). I got legal intake install on my HB99dx, then when i look closely at the engine...it doesnt seem as if a strut bar will fit!! my friends ex intake come out from the side while mine come from the top. I cant be the first person to have this problem so i was hoping someone can help me solve this problem.

Very common with D16Y7 intakes. You'll have to find a strut bar that will arch over the intake.

The Neuspeed strut bar works well, as does a GSR strut bar, with the bar up front and the tabs facing the rear.

just chang out your intake manifold to the ex one or get an aftermarket one like skunk2. they both come out through the side and is a pretty noticable upgrade.... and on top of that you can put whatever strut bar you want in your engine bay.

dude thats a great idea, but this guy is a beginner he just said... id give'm more a task like find an OEM ex/si sohc manifold with all sensors an TB an all, and work from there... skunk2 ur goin to pay like 250$ off the bat, nice IM but theres plenty of other options out there... plus u can get an OEM IM for like under $50 bucks ... to each his own i guess, but to the OP just do the mini me u wanna do, it'll be fairly easy, semi-fun, an very-informativel.. trust me.. i said he could also change it to an ex/y8 manifold. it'll be cheaper, like you said it'll be easier if he finds a complete one. search on ht for diy on removal and installation, there should be somthing on here. just make sure you scrap of the whatever gasket is stuck on the block and replace it w/ an oem one.

Ok, i see the problem. You said a Neuspeed bar would fit so i visit the site and check out the product. Would one that fit on a 95 ex fit on my HB? my friend 95 ex has one and he would let me have it (because he's looking for a reason to get a better one haha), the item number is the same when i search for strut bar for both cars so i assume it fits both. The changing to a new manifold was a good advice but then i would have to get a new intake dont i? what is the different between hp of a DX's y7 and an EX's y8? I'm confused, i thought the basis of Mini-me was replacing cylinders with VTEC? i was planning to work my way up to that in a few months, but manifold exchange is part of Mini-me too?

For simplicity it'd be easier (and I'm speaking from experience) to buy a two piece cold air intake for the Y7 that comes with the mounting bracket on the main pipe leading to the intake manifold. I used to have a simple intake pipe like you have on mine and it rattled against the strut brace slowly wearing away the material in the tube. I figured a new strut brace would fix it but I ended up getting a new two piece Simota intake that had the bracket. The bracket moved the intake down below the brace and clear of any issues against it, so stupidly I got the Benen three point strut brace that I don't need as much (would have to drill the tower holes which the DX's don't have drilled) because of the new intake.

Wow, you people are making it entirely too complicated:

GSR bar or Neuspeed bar. End of story.

x10

Your search for mini me swap returned 257 results...

theres tons of info dude just search around for a while until you feel like you've gotten ur basics down... take a look at MADDDD pictures, than compare to parts on your car to become familiar with whats what an what goes where... Buy a Haynes or Chiltons manual for your car, having a manual for ur car just makes u that much smarter

id say Mini Me FTW, it makes more sense to swap the whole vtec head instead of just swapping the IM, plus for what you can get a complete head assembly for it just makes more damn sense dude.. lol GL tho
