One upping the bedroom build (my build thread)....
The bedroom build's got nothin' on the closet build....
So we go back to the beginning... I picked up a spare D17 and started ripping it apart...

It was in pretty good shape... 70K, perfectly running, clean inside. The cylinders were a little out of round... partly attributed to the open deck block, so they were bored .020 over and I was off and running. The head was clean, straight, etc....
So all this junk went to the machine shop, the block has been bored, honed and decked (clean up the surface), the head is getting cleaned, new exhaust guides, new seals and a 3 angle valve job.
I'm using Wiseco 9:1 slugs, Crower rods and CP rings. All the bearings, seals and gaskets are new from Honda, as well as a new oil pump and Water pump.
The valve train is Crower, as is the cam, and I snagged some Supertech Black Nitrided SS valves.
I'm still waiting for the head to be finished later this week, and I'm having the turbo return bung and oil temp sensor bung welded into the oil pan as well.
In the meantime, I kinda got bored...

Then I got crackin on the good stuff...
This is way too bland...

This is more like it

And then we move along to the rotating assembly. The ring gap equation gave me numbers so close together I didnt really have a great means to measure the difference. (top ring came out to be 17.7 (thousanths), bottom ring came out to be 18.3.... so I gapped the top one to a tight 18 and the bottom to a loose 18... not much else I coulda done.

Plastigauged the crank journals, got .015" clearance in all 5 journals.
Put the rings on, and sent them home....
And this is where I stand now. I'll probably close up the crank bridge tomorrow and then clean up some of the other parts and get them ready while I wait for more stuff to come back from different places.

Your reasoning being what, exactly?
Don't post stupidly, just because you can't do anything without asking 10 times.

reason i'm asking is when we were unloading my d17a2 from my truck me and vinh tried to set it down between the both of us, it was too heavy and pretty much slammed down and smooshed the box that was under it. i guess having the tranny still on it didn't help much.

good luck on your build though, looks like a killer. i saw your car yesterday, i took some pics of it, i'll post them for you tonight when i get home

damn, looking good. Its giving me the bug, its been a while since I've had that kind of fun. I've gotten to build up a d15b7, d16y8, b18a1, b18c1 and a Jaguar 5.3L V12... LOTS of fun when you get to do it like that.

That motor is a bit more complete than mine. I didnt have a trans, accessories or manifolds, which drops the weight a bit. Now, I'm not a small guy, but me and a pretty whimpy friend picked it up. The crank... might weigh more than the block.
