Default i can't find a decent bike, except one 98 YZF600R

So i have been looking at a lot of bikes the last few weeks
I would have been happy to start on a 250 of some sort, but after sitting on them, that idea went out the window quick.
i moved on to a 400cc Cb-1 or honda Hawk GT 650, both of them are a little on the cramped side
I sat on a Monster 620 and was sold. Not crazy HP, nice seating postion, easy clutch. then i got an insurance quote $146/month eeek, alright what the hell. Now finding one is the super hard part (15 for canada so my only real option is an import from the US)
Sat on a SV650 and not comfy, GS500 not bad, but finding a newer one for a decent price is proving hard.
There are no Honda 599s locally to sit on so i don;t know how well thats gonna go. And they are really expensive when they do come up for sale.

BUT
Today i went to check out a 98 YZF600R since it was on the way home.
ahhhh it was comfortable, the pegs and shifter where in the right place. the clutch was nice, eveything felt great.
From what i have read it's not as fast as an F3, ZX-6 ect.., more comfy riding position, and amazing breaks. it is heavier at 428lbs wet. but i didn;t feel overwheled (i am 6ft 215lbs). Also unlike the others it has a smooth power band with pull from idle up, which should make it easier to ride(no?)

So for a beginer with self control will this bike be alright?

Is there any other bike i should go look at?

thanks

If you have to ask...then no.

The truth is, its up to you to know if the bike is right for you. However, in general, the less power you have on tap the less likely you are to get into trouble. SO its really a "you can get what you want, but less is more" situation.

A YZF600R is definately a great bike to start on though. And you wont outgrow it any time too soon.

Edit : And do some research on the bike (if you havent already). I think there are a few owners on this board. I hope one of them will chime in.

yea, its a great bike. i have a 2003 as my first bike. just got it liek 2 months ago. just so you know. they have a common second gear issue that occurs with alor of mis shifts and what not, so you shoudl get the factory pro shift kit that will minimize the chances of that happening. but its not bike error, its biek error from what i read. join http://www.yzf600r.com and read the **** in the forums. i say for yzf 600s. good buy

I just bought a 2003 r6 for my first bike not even a month ago. Iv had no problems with it I think the second gear issue was from 99-02 not positive thoe but anyway I think the bike is got decent power an rides pretty well.

You won't go wrong with a 600r. It's my first bike also. A very forgiving bike for a noobie but definitely more than enough grunt to get you into trouble. I don't see myself trading mine in anytime soon.

haha kind of like asking how much a ferrari is, if you have to ask you can;t afford

i have been trying to find the "slowest" bike i can, but everything under 600ccs seems to have been made for smaller people

A friend bought a 2002 Zx6r, and that thing, when i sit on it, feels like i should just get off and back away haha
the yamaha feels like i should fire it up and go for a ride

really the 599 fits you. I really have to find one to sit on
VFRs are 750s no? Isnuracne might kill me on a 750. they are more concerned about CCs than the type of bike, anything over 600ccs gets expensive. hence the $146/ month for the Monster (618cc)

yea, 599s are nice, but smaller then the 600r. just go and sit on them and see what you like best.

4400 for a 98 is a bit much, though at 9k miles it's barely broken in. i bet you could get that thing for 3 grand. the most i'd pay is 3,500 + fees if you are buying it from a dealership
i had a 2003 yzf600r as my first bike and it served me extremely well. it had 25k miles on it when i sold it and i never had a problem with it. at times, i actually still wish i had the 600r... that thing got 45-55 miles per gallon! i'd choose the yzf600r over the r6 or other 600s anyday as a beginner bike. most comfortable riding position, very stable in the turns, and more than enough power for most.

I love it when squids say that their 600cc race bike makes "decent power."

crap thats cheap, i don't ahve a problem getting one from the US. BUt they don;t seem very commom in either county haha
plus by the time i pay for gas, food, tax, and import fees i might as well just get one 10min from home

ya 3500 won;t happen, there was one for sale last week that i missed and it was the equivalanet of $3700US but it had about 16,000miles, and it sold fast.
I can wait though for a cheaper one

Oh if you think thats alot, a 599 with 4000miles goes for about $5000 US or more
there is a 599 on ebay with a buy it now of $4000 US with 2000miles but ti;s over 1000km away

i know it's retarded.
State Farm here does it by CCs and they have the best rates.
You wanna hear somthing scary. I asked antoher insurance company about a 97 Ducati Monster 750, ready for this, $7000-$10,000 year hahahahah yikes

The yzf600r with State farm is $96/month for me, VS $146/month for the ducati Monster 620
Pretty retarded if you ask me, the ducati mamkes what 65 hp on a good day, the YZF600 about 90hp

The 600R is pretty nice once you get it out on the highway, or in some twisty mountain roads, but I found it rather bulky and lame for puttering around town.

The price seems high to me, I got a 2002 with 20K miles (ran like a champ) for $3200. sold it a few months later for $3500

BUMP... hell yea thats a nice bike, i just bought this exact same bike yesterday. i usually ride dirtbikes and just decided to get a rocket out of the blue when i saw this one parked outside carquest. let me know how much these bikes usually go for in good cond, with 20k mi. because i just paid 1400 for this one which has minor body dmg. but runs nice.

and if anybody knows where to get nice parts for the 98 yzf600r post em up because there hard to come across used parts for sale

600r is a pretty good starter bike, the weight gives it a little more secure feeling, you don't get pushed around in the wind and its not as twitchy in the twisties. Its got decent power and looks sporty. Don't settle on the first bike you see, there's always plenty that go on sale. Most "riders" are very fickle and sell within a year.

Anything with clip-ons is not a good starter bike IMO.
