rebuilding my tranny
i was wondering if anyone knows a good website or a good person from california that will rebuilt your tranny .... im looking to rebuild mine.. because its grinding 2nd, and 5th gear.. this happened for power shifiting it so if you are doing this better stop if you want your tranny to last.. anyway if anyone knows a good website or a good shop that will rebuilt your tranny and gurantee there work than could you please post the website or phone number.. only looking for people who only do hondas and acuras... my tranny is a y1 b16 cable lsd tranny... does anyone know the gear speed website so i can give them a call...
i also had one more question right now my tranny is grinding 5th gear but it does get it and everything it just grinds... my question is if i keep on using it or shifting to 5th gear will it messed up even worse to the point that it wont move foward? will i mess up the other gears? please if you can let me know thanks..
No. If you wear out 5th gear synchros, you wear out 5th gear and just will have to drive in 4th. Power-shifting into 5th? Totally not needed, even if you're "Freeway racing."
no i would never powershift into 5th gear thats not what i meant.. i meant that i was powershifting into other gear like 2nd and thrid... my tranny got harder and harder to shift now it ginds on fifth gear.. so im thinking in just rebuilding the whole tranny how much would i spent on it... i already paid 1100 dollars on it just to buy the damn tranny its kaaz 1.5 lsd.... now i was wondering how much to rebuild the tranny everything from gear speed.. if i would just ship them the tranny and get a brand new one they put up everything i just put the tranny and money.. how much would it cost me? and also would you guys recommend rebuilding a cable tranny wouldnt it be easier for it to get the synchros messed up again? arent they weaker tranny's?
please clear up for me if you dont mind. I know with dirtbikes powershifting is grabbing a gear with no clutch and still pinned throttle, is this what you mean you were doing with ur car? I know I shift fast with the clutch, grind free and no slamming gears or anything, this is safe right? just trying to clear this up and save my grind free tranny.
thanks
thanks

thats exaclty what i mean full throttle shifting with out letting go of the gas and steping on the clutch and shifting.. this is called powershifting and if you are doing this say good buy to a good tranny.... i never knew that would mess up my free from any grinds tranny that cost 1g but know grinds 5th and 2nd like crazy i have to rebuild it no other way to go... so please if you are doing this powershifting better stop if you want your tranny to last you.... some dude told me that you mess it up because you shift faster than the tranny... so the clutch doesnt really get to set in all the way neither do the gears and once you let go your gears arent set right and little by little you will start to mess up your tranny.. happened to me and 2 of my friends.... anyways back to my questions up top..please help need opinions
wait, you are using the clutch, just keeping the throttle pinned? Im confused cause i am a dirtbike guy where some people just yank up on the shifter, no clutch, no release from throttle (calling this powershifting) which is bad unless you have shaved gears. I dont do this, i use clutch and release throttle whether in my car or on dirtbike/quad or anything else for that matter. thanks for tolerating my stupidity.
damn shifting with out a clutch is even worser... defently if you are doing this you will defently mess up your tranny.. powershifting in cars is.. shifting with out letting go of the gas pedal and steping in the clutch and realeasing it.. but never let go of the gas pedal.. these two methods really really mess up your tranny.. back to my questions up top..
double clutch it and try to match the rpms it should help the grind out. plus for the gearspeed synchros i think i paid either 200 or 220 for them but that is just for the synchros themselves. them trannies are not hard to rebuild at all just go by the book and you shouldnt have any problems
PM me if you have any questions...
The transmissions are not any weaker than others...just usually have a lot more mileage to begin with. Looks like your trans may be done deal...only way to find out is to open it up. Grinding fifth gear on an older B series trans is usually an oil deprivation cause....meaning it could be low on fluid and is burned out or been run low in the past and is now showing common symptoms...Get it open!

damn seems like you know a lot anyway i called up gearspeed today and they told to rebuild my intire tranns it would cost me 1400... and then i talk to blacktrack up it milipitas,ca they told 1-5 shycros installed 250... so i might just take it to them so they can check it out...do the gears get mess up easily or no? i dont think i have messed up gears or chewed up gears because fifth doesnt pop when ever i put it into 5th gear but it does grind.... i will check the fluid of the tranny too... see if its low on fluid...but i am getting it opened it up i just cant live knowing that i have a mess up tranny... damn.. thanks any more opinion of what i should do?

Well it is usually more than a synchro problem but, I guess you can change them out if you feel it is necessary.....Gear failures are pretty common in transmissions that are older than 15years! LOL!
Typically a grind can have about 4 causes....Gear, sleeve, synchro, and fork. They all work together....so when one part is bad...it affects the rest of them.

i talk to the guy and on gear speed i told that i was grinding 5th gear he told me that it was not the synchros.. thats what he said.. i check the fluid on the trans and its up to normal and clean too.. i dont i might just sell it and get me a type r tranny anyone know who is selling one?
my ef si tranny grinds into 5th and makes a high pitch squeel.. sounds good eh? took it apart and the 5th gear syncro is totally smooth on the inside, and it should be full of ridges! my carrier bearings on the diff are worn out as well, they should arrive at work tomorrow. usually a grind is from a worn out syncro, but what caused it to wear prematurely, is the real question
i made up my mine i will buy a type r tranny instead and i will sell this one ... these are way too old.. i rather rebuild a type r tranny than a y1 cable...they suck
