check it out it cranks and cranks and i here a explosion in the combustion chamber like its about to start but it doesnt check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmyT8b36GZ4
well a couples questions i guess... i just got done with mine and it runs perfect. after i fixed a couple things. did you switch distributor? double check all your wiring, because i bet you have some wires mixed up at the injectors, or down on the harness side of tha ecu. sounds like your not getting spark,?
throwing any codes?? Check on the 2 white wires on the dist. and swap those and try, they look the same.

yes switched dizzy to 1.6 si dizzy i double checked my wiring it looked good to me but ill check a third time not throwing any codes what so ever i have swapped around the the two white dizzy wires so i dont got any idea what else it could like i said ill check the wiring again
sounds the same as my sons car did when he first got it . he was driving it home, the little screw @ the rotor backed out this was @ night so when he put it back in he insltaled it in reverse. it sounded exactly the same . did you remove the cap and rotor? if so check that, if not try starter fluid see if that tryes to start up ,double check your wires it does sound like it out of firing order

Agreed, give the fluid a try. If it starts and runs for a few seconds you've got a fuel problem. Wiring, resistor box, bad injectors etc.
I would almost say its just bad firing order but it should still be combusting it'll just sometimes sound like its coming out of your intake.
If you pull the plugs do you smell fuel in each cylinder? I also assume you've replaced the basic parts, plugs, wires, cap/rotor?
btw
for the video, makes things easier

If it was the main relay it wouldn't turn over at all just an fyi!

If you can, swap out the ecu and see if its that. If not then your going to have to recheck all your wiring. From the video it sounds like maybe only 1 cylinder is firing so if you were not getting power to the injectors, find out if its all of them. Trace the wiring back the resistor box (perhaps try a different one here as well) and run them all the way back to your ecu to make sure theyre in the right slots.
Where did you get your mpfi directions from?
The link for the directions I used isn't up anymore, so either search for a current one or if someone here can post up one so you can cross reference yours and make sure your directions are correct.

i agree with this.. it sounds like your car wants to start because its only getting fuel to one cyinder or something. definitely recheck your wiring.. did you install a resistor box and all that for it? did you check all the cylinders for fuel? or just one?
and make sure all your spark plugs are firing, if you havent already.
check those things and dont listen to your dad.. sometimes they just dont know what they are talking about..
