Default Replaced headgasket, car sounds strange (loud).

I just recently replaced my headgasket on my car. First time i put everything back together, didnt start. I took everything apart again and did some major cleaning. Put everything back. Now the car started, but it sounds very strange, like the sound of a lawn mower. The car also sputters. When i start the car, you can see white smoke from the engine, dunno where its coming from. But i also notice a small crack on my headers. Sometimes i see some come from between the exhaust and the headers.
After i turn the car off, i notice that i see fluid leaking from my exhaust.

Could that be the problem of why it sounds the way it does?

Hope im not asking too many questions.

Thanks

boy, it sounds like you're in a real rut. i can think of a few things off hand. Is the timing correct? sometimes its a simple mistake that may make for a disaster. What about the head? did you mill it? perhaps the shop you sent it off to, if you did, milled down too much? not to sure on this one man? i understand, its the worst feeling when you do and overhaul like that to find out that something went wrong.

It actually sounds like there is still a leak in the head gasket. Exhaust gas and coolant is leaking.

Check:
head gasket: the correct one?
head machined flat?
block checked for flatness?
head torqued correctly?

Update!!!

Yes the car is leaking out coolant between the headgasket and the cylinder head.
One of my head bolts are f**ked up.

Guess that could be it.

well what exactly do you mean by one of your head bolts being messed up? stripped, bent, not torqued on all the way? cause you might be lucky you didnt bend a valve if thats the case. keep us updated.

might be stripped.

if it is you might want to think about tapping it!

did you buy new head bolts??

well i'm assuming if it's done right,

new
water pump
timing belt
head gasket
oil pump belt
head bolts
a refab of the head
and doing the job yourself
under $500

but if you were to have a shop or a dealership do it, probably a little less, if not $1000

it's really not necessary unless you blow the old one!

Update!!!

The car sounds a little better but it still sounds loud. Now when i rev the engine, it wont go past 5k rpm. I see alot of somke from the headers.

On the head gasket somewhere, it says up. Is it suppose to face up or could it be installed wonrg???

i'm not sure how to help you on this one. Maybe timing? have you check the distributor for proper position?

no ihavent check my timing, ill take a look at it. I got the head bolt tight but i still see coolant leaking from the same area. I think i need to take my head to go get it machined.

the head MUST be decked when you change the head gasket. The 'UP' should be just that...UP!! Set your timing between 9-13 degrees advance, and make sure that all your timing marks are ligned up properly.
