Default Oxegen Sensor

The question I have is, can I clean my oxegen sensor? I got a new one about six months ago and the timing has been off so it has been running rich. So I want to clean it before I smog it. If I can clean it how would I clean it. I don't want to spray carberator cleaner in it and make it have a false reading when I smog it. Help will be greatfully taken.

Do not spray anything on it. If it really does need cleaning, some have had success heating it up with a propane tourch to cook off the contaminants.
