Default IM NEW TO JAP CARS ... TUNED SI OWNERS PLEASE RESPOND

i used to own a 20th ae vw gti stage 3 , and i was an expert on all parts , part numbers , the best equipment ....exc i have been doing the german tuner scene for a while ....

i sold my car about 6 months ago , bought a beater (93 nissan maxima)
now im signing the papers tomorrow on a black 06 civic si with 9k on the odo...

i test drove it and the interior won my heart ..... its a little slow for my liking and i will def mod this car....

what are the best setups....? who are the best brands?
mind you , i like things the german way , i....i want to do this car extremly clean ......

my first set of mods will be exhaust( i want something with a really mean sound , but not 1000 db something that you can hear but not something obnoxious..., intake, ??? any other inexpensive suggestions?
the engine seemed choked so i want to let it breathe....

also what suspension options are people running....?

MOST IMPORTANTLY
where is the best place on the internet to get all this stuff....?

thanks for reading and helping a newly converted civic owner

Honda's can go numerous ways. Right now the best places to buy things are:

http://www.corsportusa.com
http://www.showstoppersusa.com
http://www.collegehillshonda.com
http://www.hondapartsdeals.com

Being that these cars have a very new design, most power options are still in R&D... Comptech just died (huge loss) they had a supercharger option that some people here have. There are also a few turbo kits around but none are rock solid reliable yet.

As for bolt ons, there are many exhausts, just depends what kind of note you like, and what kind of quality you want. Headers are very expensive unless you go DC, but they have been known to have crappy welds.

Intakes, choose SRI or CAI... they are all pretty much the same. If you have to worry about a lot of water in your area, dont get a CAI. I'm sure you know most of this being that you are into cars. I'm just trying to set you in a good direction.

Welcome.

...all good sites. Another good one is http://www.kingmotorsports.com for more of the high end stuff (i.e. Mugen, buddy club, etc.). But like Demonis said, a lot of the parts/setups for our cars are still in R&D...

And there are tons of threads on different suspension setups, intakes, headers, hondata reflash, exhausts, etc., so the search funtion is your best friend

Happy hunting and welcome to the world of Honda

The biggest challenge you are going to face in modding and tuning your SI, is going to be fuel tuning. Currently, we really only have reflashes available for fuel tuning, and all "performance" reflashes (AJC Turbo, Greddy Turbo, Redshift, Superchargers, ect) and all copy righted.

Hondata is the best company to look too for fuel tuning (they did all the reflashes I listed above), and they have a non-boost reflash as well. Hopefully, Hondata will be releasing a stand alone fuel management system some time this summer (we hope).

They're several Catbacks available, a few race headers, CAI, and suspension parts available as well. Crower just recently released several different cam set-ups, springs and stroker rods for the motor as well. Holley also has a DBW NOS system that will work (up to a 75 shot). I think at least one person has it installed.

The car is still pretty new, so keep looking if you don't find the mods you want. New stuff is coming out everyday.

The links provided in an earlier email are the most popular on-line sites for parts.

Good luck and enjoy the car.

injen hands down the best intake for Si's.

Skunk2, Apex'i, Greddy, etc. for exhausts. There aren't that many quiet/stock looking systems out there right now with the exception of the Greddy Evo2 and the Apex'i World Sport.

I live in cali, cops are haters, im waiting for RS*R Ex-mag.

For CAI, but fujita makes a SRI that's supposedly just as good as the injen

Skunk2 is LOUD, but the Greddy Evo2 seems to be decently quiet. I had an Apex'i WS2 on my '93 accord and loved it... good power gains and very nice tone. Perfect for daily driving

You and your stereotypes about race sorta proves my stereotype that most non vintage veedub enthusiasts are stuck up snobs.

The K series motors really respond to bolt-ons well. You could have alot of fun with this car with Intake(Injen)/Header(SSR)/Exhaust(Greddy Evo2)/Hondata Reflash.

If you have the $ now, I would go try to chase after a new Comptech S/C before they're all gone for good.

I dont think anyone should say which intake is "BEST" when comparing SRI to SRI and CAI to CAI.... especially on the short rams.. i think they are all about the same. I chose K&N not because of the overrated advertisement of +10hp, but because I trust K&N products and have never had a problem with them.

I also chose Greddy Evo2 catback exhaust for my car because like you mentioned, that ricey buzzsaw sound makes me want to strangle the drivers. Evo2 is very deep, and gets loud (in a good tone) in VTEC.

As for headers, the only good headers IMO right now are Comptech (for a shorty) and SSR (i think) for race. but both are expensive and hard to find... Comptech = $500+ and no longer in production SSR = $1200+
