Default Hid Kit install Rsx?

I've been looking into getting a HID kit. I found this DIY http://www.clubrsx.com/cr/SSIIAFHID.html and according to step 9 requires cutting the stock housing or something? I thought everything just plugs into stock setup? Also requires taking off the front bumper, is this necessary even to get to the stock bulb? How hard is the DIY for a +05 model?

-side note- I think I am gonna go with a McCulluch Kit, what are some other good options?

it would really help that you take off the front bumper but i didn't on my first time so it is possible

you don't actually cut the housing, its more like the socket that the bulb is attacted to

you'll know what i mean when you take it apart

I didn't take the bumper off either.

You can get the sockets from Acura for $9 w/ dealer discount. It's easy to make. The only reason for taking the bumper off would be to mount the HID's under the head lights. The passanger socket will need to be electric taped cause only the driver side will be connected to the ballast wiring.

I am not understanding In order to remove the stock bulb you cut the socket which is part of the bulb? If that is the case will i need to attach something to the HID bulb, or will that fit fine?

In terms of just replacing the stock bulb with another, does that mean you would need to cut that part of the socket every time?

You have to cut the end of the socket off to make what are called "X-Cips."

Link has all the steps: http://forums.clubrsx.com/show...-clip

This is what Aco512 is talking about:

Once it's cut:

All this DIY is for is to secure the HID bulbs into the headlight so the paperclip like holders will keep the bulbs in place very snug.

good explaination

the "x-clips" gives the bulb a snug fit in the housing versus without one it would just dangle there

Cool Thanks for the link, makes sense now. Just ordered my kit today, going to try the install next weekend. I'm gonna see if i can do it without removing the bumper maybe? That socket is hella cheap found this site selling it for 5bucks. http://www.acuraoemparts.com/d...y.jsp

Thanks again for the info!

You can install them without taking the bumper off. Just if you want to mount the ballasts under the headlights like many do you'll need to take the front bumper off.

How many K did you get?

I used to have 5300k on my Accord. Decent, slightly bluish white color, but the output was horrible in my halogen housings.

41-4300k is OEM, but anything after 6k is pure garbage. Philips makes a 3000k and 6000k Ultinon bulb, but that's about it for genuine OE equipment manufacturers.

Maybe on your Accord, but I think it looks good on my RSX-S.

Nothing to do with the car...the higher k rating the color, the less light is actually put out. Anything over 6,000k dramatically reduces the amount of light that actually gets to the ground where you need it. That's why OEM stays in the relatively narrow band around 4k. Its closest to pure white light, which puts out the most light.

I know that, but I've been next to a Lexus w/ HID's, at night, and I went even with him and my headlight went further out than his. Anyway I see more than I did with my halogens, so I like.

I have Phillips 4300k, in OEM housings. I love the light output! My friend has 8k in his focus with really nice Hella projectors...and in the rain there is low visibility and alot of reflection. mine on the other hand is great so far rain snow fog..etc. I do wish i could have afforded retrofits but until then theses will do fine. The wohle instal took all of like 1hr 45min-2hr just chilling taking my time and with never have done a set before. thats including taking my bumper off, housings out, cutting X clips, and mounting ballasts, and the re-install of everything else.

here is some quick crud pics the night i installed em
