'07 - check gas cap
Have any of you Accord owners had gas cap troubles? I only have 6500 miles and I have a "check gas cap" error code. I've taken it off and put it on 10 times but the damn code won't go away. I've tried one click, three clicks, nothing works.
Any advice?

Just tighten it up and drive it. The evap monitor needs to run again. If the monitor passes the check gas cap message will go away. If it fails the check engine light will come on.
If you would read the owner's manual, it says that the gas cap light may not go away until after a few drives. If it does not go away after a couple of days, bring it back to the dealer. The little plastic line that holds the cap will get caught under the cap causing a leak, then the light comes on. Be careful not to get the tether cord trapped under the cap when you put it on.

I have read the manual and knew I had read something about it. Last night I couldn't find it though. Hopefully it will go away before too long.
The thing that is weird is that it's been at least a week since I put gas in the car. I would think the code would have popped up earlier.
Thanks guys!

Also...
That same code can be caused by other things that affect whether the gas tank is airtight. Cracked hose somewhere, or a failed valve. Or a bad gas tank pressure sensor.
Is there any reason why this would NOT be covered by your warranty?

I don't see why not, unless something was damaged from a kicked up rock or something. I did get under the car yesterday and everything looked normal.
The reason I started this thread was because I wanted to know if this code was a common, known issue due to something other than the cap actually not being screwed on completely. I'm a quality engineer so I'm pretty thorough and question everything.....

Then do a warranty claim... The following stuff is just my ideas of what could possibly cause it, but with such a new car ('07) they would certainly be warrantied.
- bad fuel tank pressure sensor (used to measure airtightness of tank)
- bad solenoid valves which isolate the tank to perform the check
- leaky flange where the fuel pump is installed in the tank

Well, it's been 600+ miles and I've topped off the tank twice. It still hasn't went away, although the check engine light hasn't tripped yet either.
I'll give it a few more days to go away or I'll take it in next week.
Good news is I got 33mpg on my weekend trip!

For future reference, my light went off today.
It took 7 days, two fill ups and ~800 miles of driving. The check engine light never came on. According to the manual, if the code is followed by a check engine light, you should take it in.
