evercoat heavy duty rubbing compound and dark foam glaze.
schlegel pads. one looks like carpet and the other looks identical to the 3m foam waffle pad.
for the same stuff 3m costs twice as much.

Never was a fan of the pads that look like carpet though. I always liked the foam pads..they have 2 that I always used..I dont remember the names of them but 1 was softer and the other was more aggresive.

yeah, i don't like them either. The fibers come loose and make a big mess.
what pad should replace the carpet pad?

God its been so long since I have fooled with them. If I am not mistaken its just a softer foam pad...cream colored, just a round with sharp edges...
There is also a more aggresive pad you want to use...black, still round but it has more of a blend on the edges...hard to explain. I will see if I can find some pics.

Like stated before though. If you use meguires foam pad its advised to use meguires compound, etc.

There is NO reason you have to use meguiars products with meguiars pads. One of the most popular brands of foam pads is Lake country and all they do as far as I know is make pads. Hell, in fact, some of there pads are practically the same thing as the Lake country pads. Meguiars manufactures a cutting pad, polishing pad, and finishing pad. My favorite compound/polishes to use after wetsanding(which I assume your going to be doing with the new paint) is Optimum Hyper compound/Otpimum Compound, and Optimum polish. Many people have good luck with the meguiars #84 and #85 as well as #83 DACP and #80. Saying that you can only use the Meguiars products with meguiars pads and get good results is like saying that you can only use the Meguiars G100 Buffer with meguiars products when the G100 is pretty much the EXACT same thing as the Porter cable 7424.

I am not saying that is the only way to get GOOD results..I am just saying thats what is recommended. Each product is only made to work with there own products. So it only makes since to use the same product line.
I know there are some pads/compounds better than others. I also am not saying to mix and match.
I am just stating the facts that the companys/professionals say.
Either way, sorry for the missunderstanding

Actually in MY post I sounded like I was being an ***. Sorry about that. I was just trying to add some useful information to the thread
I also understand where your coming from when you say that the companies recommend only there products with there pads and such, but in reality we all know thats just so they can make more money and market their own products, for the most part.
I also just noticed you live in KY too. Thats pretty cool! Where do you live at in KY?
