ive been wanting to get a rear si lip for my 97 civic. i was wondering if theres any difference with the 96-98 civic coupe rear bumpers and the 99-00 rear bumpers? and would i be able to the put the civic si optional rear lip on my 97 civic dx coupe?

 

They are different, but a 99-00 rear bumper will bolt up with no modification.

As you can see, the rear bumpers are different, and the lips made for each are different as well.

 

If you want to replace the bumper so you can add an *OEM* '99-'00 rear lip, then you can get a rear bumper from either a coupe or a sedan. The coupe and sedan rear bumpers are the same.

Also, there are replica rear lips out there that look like the '99-'00 rear lip, but match up to the '96-'98 rear bumper.

No way in hell. Have you ever even looked at the shape of the two bumpers?
