carbs vs. fuel injected
I'm new to the bike scene but I've been taking it real easy with a lot of slow manuevers just to get a feel for it and now im at the point of being comfortable at all speeds. I've been riding around with my cousin(other brother) following me on his cbr600rr and he is quite amazed at how I picked up riding so fast. So I'm pretty much dead set on getting a bike, I'd like to have a new bike but ive been looking at older 600cc bikes for around the $3-4000 area. With that price I see a lot of bikes with carbs instead of the new fuel injected bikes. How much more maitnance is carbs over FI? is it just as reliable? basicaly i would just like to know the pros and cons of both
From my limited experience, I would opt for FI. Carbs require cleaning and being synced. Its not much more maintenance, but i hate doing it

x2 I love how i can just push the start button and let the computer do the rest. My friend and my brother has carb bikes and I hate messing with the carb ****. Plus FI bikes have been out for awhile now and I do not think the price difference of FI and Carb bikes is that much.

It gets that cold in Elk Grove?
My commuter bike runs flatside carbs which means no choke. By the time I get to the street, she's running fine. If I just let it sit and idle, it would take forever to warm up.
My FI bike HAS to have the enrichment circuit on in the morning or it will stall.

kind of an odd question. but to start my bike i push the starter button and open the throttle a little and it starts right away. It is carb'd, does this mean its flooding after every ride? I have never used the choke

On poorly jetted or CV carbs, sure - they can be. Flatsides are the answer.
FI bikes can be snatchy which is worse in many ways.

depends on a lot of things, like the bike it's attached to.
for a first bike i don't think the carb vs. FI thing matters as much as whether the bike is appropriate for you or not.
that said, don't even spend 4K on your bike, spend 2200 on a nice F2.

Anyone see an issue here that is more important than whether or not you are running carbs?
FYI - Duy is in the black on the carb issue

Nothing wrong with carbamaphones... if the bike is ridden regularly there's no need to dissasemble/clean/repair them. Sync'ing the carbs shouldnt need to be done very often (once a year?).
I love the FI in my F4i, but I never really had any complaints about the carbs on my F3 either. The carbs on my CB400 are fuggin sweeeeeeet
If you hate messing with the choke on cold mornings... well maybe you need some kerosene rags for your cold weather rides.
