ok, so i have had this noise for a few weeks now and its driving me crazy. it seems to only happen at a certain rpm, i mean i cant hear it any time above 750. even if i touch the throttle cable it will jump to 800rpm and the sound will go away. turning on and off accessories make the nose go away too so i thought it was the alternator...but i dont think so. here is the link:

it sounds like a bearing in a pully or water pump

 

i hope so much its that timing belt tensioner

i need some more suggestions...the sounds is still there. over the past few days i have:

replaced the oil pump
replaced the water pump

could it be within the motor? i have no metal shavings so i doubt its a spun bearing. i put a screw driver on the oil pump while it was idling and it sounds as though its definatly coming from there but the oil pump is brand new.

i had the same problem with my car.... i think. mine was a bad ground through my stereo and i was gettin alternator feedback freqeuncy in my speakers. turn the stereo off and see if its still there.

 

i dont think its that because i lost the face to my stereo, BUT, it might be coming from the alternator. however i did put a screwdriver to the oil pump and it sounded as though it was definatly coming from there. i now have a new oil pump and the sound is still there

ALSO, when the motor is priming there is an awful grinding sound just under the lights go off. it sounds as though its coming from along the firewall dead center in the middle, or even maybe right behind the stereo...? what could that sound be?
