Weird starting problem
'95 LX wagon w/ the oem engine/starter. It's manual trans btw.
Anyway, I was having problems earlier this year and I replaced the electrical portion of the ignition switch and later on the contacts inside the starter solenoid. All was good until recently. It's intermittent...mostly when the car's completely cold.
Any ideas? My battery's "nearing" end of life...it was made april 2004 BUT....
Battery voltage: 12.8V
Voltage drop when starting: 11.something
Running voltage: 14.4V
What's the deal?

you gave some good basic info, But What is the actual problem you are having?
Won't Crank?
Cranks slow?
Cranks but Won't start?
Battery terminals clean and tight?
Most parts stores will load test the battery for free in the hopes of selling you a new one.

Sorry. When it doesn't start, I don't get any sound whatsoever. I don't hear the solenoid/relay clicking but I do get the lights. I'll hold the key in the start position for about 10 seconds then the check engine light comes on. I turn it all the way off then repeat until it starts. It happens intermittently. It started fine this morning but the day before I had to roll/push start it. The battery terminals are clean and tight along with the battery case.
I tested my car w/ the VAT40 today and results were good. I pretty much got the same results as w/ my voltmeter. Battery terminals had a .1V drop. Wires are in good shape w/ no high resistance.
Anyway, this is getting really annoying and it has happened w/ the family in the car. It's getting quite embarrassing too.....
On a side note.....does remote starting all the time really mess up starters?

Here are some possibilities:
the clutch safety interlock switch (down by the clutch)
the main starter relay (by the steering column)
the igniter (inside the distributor)
Good luck.

The battery as you report it should have enough juice and oomphf to turn over the engine, if things are working right. Soooo, check flow from the ignition switch which you replaced before, the main relay, and those things that gulfview suggested.
