Default Plastic welder

Does anyone have any experience with one of these? any quick tips to give a n00b.

We have one at work and I wnated to use it to repair my rear bumper. I got hit a while back and my bumper has 2 little divots from the persons front tag. I figured I could just fill the spots and sand the bumper down then get it painted.

I also need to know what type of plastic the OEM bumpers are so I can buy the correct type of welding rod

I have used a plastic welder acouple times when I was in school. I loved it..
Really the only tip my teacher gave me about it was to make sure I used the same plastic to do the work. So what I always did was cut some of the plastic off the back of whatever I was working with. Kinda made my own welding rods...worked great. I have been meaning to buy me one but never could find a good deal. Either way good luck.

first off, you can buy one on ebay for like $15. i did, and it came with plastic rods, lots of them that you use to weld plastic.

using it is pretty self explanitory. it works like a higher pressured heat gun. be careful not to over apply heat. i get the rod hot and somewhat melting already before touching the plastic. i fixed a crack on a bike fairing before. just move fast. if you over heat the plastic will shrink and look ugly

lol..
I never had a problem with shrinking it. Of course I was using the schools welder. It probably costed 500 bucks.
You did use the same type of plastic right?

The best way I found was not to use the rods at all...just cut a piece of the plastic that is not seen...works GREAT>
