Default Steering rod boots

I just noticed on my car that on the front drivers side wheel, the rubber boot around the steering rod was cracked around the smaller diameter end of the boot. How important are these to get repaired if they open up? I'm thinking of getting a new car in possibly a few months. Will it be fine for that long? Or will there be damage? Should I get it changed now? Thanks.

Get it replaced fairly soon, eventually it will rust over and start to make squeaking noises

Thanks for the reply. I may see about getting it back into the garage sometime this week. I just had my all-season tires put back on after I had the winter tires on, and I'm getting vibrating in the steering wheel and so on that I don't remember being there before. Seems like it might be a problem with the balancing or something, so I should take the car back for that at the same time.

Yupp , thats a wheel balance issue, not a big deal, just bring it to any tire or auto place, they can balance them easily.
