a/c grinding noise

a/c grinding noise

the ac made some grinding noise and smelled a bit burned for a few minutes and the noise stopped when i turned off the a/c. what can it be? thanks.

It could be a LOT of things. Compressor seizing up & burning the belt?

It would be good to pinpoint the location of the sound. Can you see any visible damage at the compressor? Scorched belt?

there is a little lever inside the car on the drivers side above the kick panel, if you pull it you can OPEN THE HOOD
