Default Question on removing the crank pulley bolt...

Like the title says. I just can't seem to get it off. I've tried a wrench + breaker bar, an impact gun, and even tried heating it up with a propane torch followed by the impact gun (recommended from a shop). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Need to get this off the cracked block so I can use the stuff that's still good. Thanks in advance.

A breaker bar and 6 foot piece of pipe never fails me.

If you have a stock crank pulley then you need to buy a tool to hold the crank from moving then you can use the breaker bar and pipe http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog...l=all if you have an after market pulley try using an impact gun with allot more power.

Well I know about the special tool, but my motor is hydraulically locked so I am not having trouble with anything spinning while trying to remove the bolt.

I'm off Indian River and Lynnhaven. I'll hit you up tonight if I can get out of work at a reasonable hour. I see you had Abacus build your block? They got mine right now... I am trying to give them the oil pump gear and water pump off my blown motor. We'll definitely have to talk about our builds

After ruining several tools trying to remove the one on my wifes D15, I had to figure out a way as I wasnt paying a mechanic to do it...
I used:
-Craftsman 17mm 6pt 1/2 drive
-Craftsman 18" 1/2" extension
-Craftsman 18" long breaker bar
-3 foot pipe
-wide top jack stand
-1 foot long 4x4.
-small chain and locking bolt

Of course the car is jacked up with with the wheel off,
1. Put the chain on crank pully and lower control arm
2. socket, extension, breaker bar together and on bolt.
3. bring jackstand, and 4x4 up to the level with breaker bar.
4. take out the slack in the chain
5. Slip the pipe over the breaker bar and slide it all the way down to the socket
6. place a foot on the extension that is on supported on the jackstand.
7. pull the bar towards you, but not towards your face. it will take some effort but down jerk it, use steady deliberate pressure. When it pops it will sound like something broke.

Hope this helps.

use an extension to bring the breaker bar past the fender. I use 2 10" extensions. Youll have more leverage with the breaker bar perpendicular. Then use a cheater bar over the breaker bar. You'll be able to put over 600 lb/ft of torque with that setup.

Just be careful with the 20" extension, I've done it as well, always a great time when the Craftsman stuff snaps

remove the flywheel cover, put a big screwdriver to lock the flywheel.... angel the breaker bar with the socket in the crank bolt and push down with your foot.

The easiest way to remove that bolt is to use a 1/2 ratchet with the correct socket and hold it firmly and give it a really really quick whack with a hammer....this will not loosen it but it will SHOCK the bolt and allow the impact gun to do its job after that....this works for me 100% of the time.

and when all else fails find someone that has an accetaline torch, heat it cherry red, and hit it with an impact. 100% guaranteed to come off even with the crappiest impact wrench.

We've always used the Moroso crank pulley bar. Best tool I've seen and used on a honda crank pulley hands down this and a breaker bar.....gets em everytime.
