Default Emergency Brake Light Stuck On

YO--
2000 Accord EX 4-cyl VTEC

When I start my car in the morning and let the e-brake down, the light in the dash doesn't go off. There's no resistance when I start to move, so I know the brakes are no longer engaged, but the light won't go off until maybe ten minutes later. Then it's fine. And it usually only happens when it's cold. Does anybody know why this may be? And this isn't the first time it's happened to me--I had an 88 EF hatchback that did the same ****.

Thanks

Low brake fluid will also cause that.

There's a float switch in the brake fluid reservoir wired to that lamp. Sometimes that float gets hung up, or the switch goes bad. Or sometimes the brake fluid level is ACTUALLY low...

mine does the same thing (00' accord ex) but from what i have gathered most of the time is is caused by either a sticky switch, or something getting stuck near the swith. but it could also be caused by low brake fluid as preveously stated. Check that for starters

Low brake fluid or you could have a burnt out light bulb.

My 92 had a bad bulb about a week ago. Pulled a spare bulb left over from a past project. Free fix in the end.

Thanks, everybody, for your input. Fluid looks good, I can live with a sticky switch. Thanks again!

I believe that warning light circuit also feeds into the ABS computer. The ABS should deactivate itself. If it were my car I'd try to find & fix it.

Same problem in my 98 EX....it's most likely the float in the master cylinder sticking. Mine will come on at random times and go away...sometimes stay on in the morning when I let the e-brake down, etc. etc.

mine does the same, only in the morning after sitting all night in a semi cold, to cold conditions.

Possibly its just something with 6th gens? (seems pretty common)
