it's not very hard. Just grab the free booklet at the DMV and read it.
I only got one question wrong after reading through it once.

If you can't handle the DMV's handbook, you can't handle a motorcycle.

The CA written test is a joke. Seriously, if you can't pass it you shouldn't be riding. I don't know how it is in your state.

I am actually in CA and just took some sample test. Bull ******* easy I tell you. Anyways, you guy think me being 5'6 is a little bit too short to ride a CBR 600? Something like a 03+?

Depends on how long your legs are, but you height will be a little short for 600rr. You can learn the one-cheek-sneak and hang off the side of the bike, but youll probably need to lower any bike you get.

I'm 5'6", and both the ***** of my feet touch the ground at the same time (read: comfortably and easily). Like rdblckSV650S said, it's all about the inseam. Just find one and sit on one.

I'm 5'7", and i've sat on plenty of sport bikes and the only one that I could not comfortably stand is some a aprillia at the ducati/aprillia dealership...

5'6", you shouldn't have any problems. Being only 1" taller, I can almost double flatfoot any 600cc sportbike.

I'm only 5'7" and have absolutely no trouble riding. Adjust the suspension for your weight and just do the ol' butt slide when you're stopped.

The DMV test class M is quite simple, the only thing you really worry about are the specific distances. Like how far you're able to park from a fire hydrant, or a railroad, but this is all from the supplemental class C written test that they give you alongside the class M written test.
