Looking for a decent budget tire
Hello,
I'm looking around for a decent summer tire. The car is not used for racing or anything but I want something decent in the rain and hot weather.
I have a few options in my price range:
Champiro 328
Falken ZE512
Federal SS535
Nexen N3000
I have heard mixed reviews on all of them but the worst being the Falkens and Champiros.
So im wondering what you guys think about the above tires and do you have any suggestions? They're going on a honda civic si.
Thanks

Those are all really crappy tires. You can do much, MUCH better without spending a lot of money.
What kind of car do you have (year, model, version) and what size (diameter) wheels do you have?

I have a 99 Honda Civic Si (im in Canada, I believe it's EX in the states) The wheels are 15" OEM honda rims. Im looking for a nice summer tire 195 or 205 / 45 or 50 / 15
All of the above tires are about 400cdn tax in and installed.
Thanks

Thanks. You'll need 195/55-15 or 205/50-15 tires.
Good, reasonably priced tires worth considering include the Kumho SPT and Yokohama ES100. I know you can't always get the same deals in Canada as we can in the States. If you were buying tires here for your car, I would be recommending the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 in 205/50-15, which sells for USD52 each at the Tire Rack and there's a USD50 rebate on a set of four through this weekend, but I don't know if the offer is good in Canada or what the prices are like there. All three of these tires are MUCH better than any of the tires you have mentioned.

thanks a lot, you pretty much saved my *** from buying garbage tires. Those 3 you mentioned are really nice. I'm really considering the Dunlops. Tirerack ships to Canada, the 4 Dunlops will run me 285.90 US shipped which is not too bad but who knows the **** rapping charges customs are going to lay on me.

Get some KUMHO All-Seasons! Seriously.. I know Discount Tire or American Tire company (same business) has some Kumho's for $60 a piece in size 15's and they are very affordable tires and VERY good for daily driving and occassional track use. Very awesome tires! I live out i nthe NorthWest (Portland, OR) and these are an awesome tire to use! Saved me through some heavy rain and snowy weather.

The SP9000 is being discontinued. It used to be Dunlop's top of the line summer tire but it really wasn't all that great, compared with other top of the line tires. I had a set and couldn't wait to use them up. If I had the choice, I would take the DZ101, SPT, or ES100 instead.

He said he wants a summer tire (presumably because he's not going to be using them in snow or frigid cold). In moderate to warm temperatures, good summer tires offer better performance than all-season tires. And the price you mention is nothing great; the Kumho SPT summer tire and the Kumho ASX all-season are usually about the same price (yes, around $60 in 15" sizes).

This is bad advice!
He said he wants a tire that he can use in the summer not summer and winter! And if you are going to recommend a tire be a little more specific, not just a brand but maybe a model too!
With all honesty, I would look at the SPT and the Dunlop DZ101. If you can invest a little more, I would seriously consider the SPT. I paid my SPT 420$ CND installed! Trust me I couldn't be happier. The SPT has good dry performance, excellent wet performance (auto-x in the rain many times!) and a very good thread life! You should be able to get 35000 Km on them.
Kort2 where are you located? I might be able to help getting some deals on tires depends on your location.

It's a common misconception that all-season tires are better for rain. They're not. In moderate to warm temperatures, most summer tires are better than all-season tires, even in rain. Some summer tires (e.g. Goodyear F1 GS-D3, Kumho SPT) are absolutely awesome in rain.
All-season tires are named all-season because of their greater flexibility of ambient temperatures, the fact that they still grip reasonably well even in frigid cold (and also on snow and ice). This flexibility is the advantage of all-seasons, with the disadvantage in the compromise, i.e. that they don't do as well in warm temperatures as summer tires, and in cold temperatures as winter tires.
Thanks for trying to help, though.

How much better are the kumho spt over the dunlop dz101, i don't mind spending the extra 50 bucks for the kumho if they will outperform or outlast the dunlops. Thanks

The Ecsta 711 is one of the worst tires in its category performance wise. Stick to nsxtasy's recommendations, they are by far better than anything else in that size and are worth the increase in money over the Ecsta 711 even if they are 2x as much.

I think the SPT is definitely worth an extra $50 for a set, but you really have to decide what you want to do with your money. I would rather stretch my budget to buy tires and put off a mod than buy cheap tires to get the mod I want. That said, neither tire is a "bad" choice so I would just recommend you spend as much as you are comfortable spending.

Try Talon tire (ill try and find the website for you), they sell alot of the tire to most autocrosser in Ontario. Also the 711 (which I use to have) are a piece of crap that should of never been made! When I switched to the SPT it was a night and day difference! DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE IN GETTING THE 711 over the SPT YOU WILL REGRET IT!
Thanks guys
I'm definitely going to have to splurge a lot of dough for a decent tire.
I checked talon tire and the cost of 4 dunlop dz101's will run 456.00 plus shipping. I can probably get them cheaper from tire rack, even after shipping and duties.
I wish I lived in the states damn it!
