Default Broken bell housing, how to clean/wash off fluid on friction disks

Exedy twin disk friction lining covered with mtf due to a cracked bell housing. Whats the best way to clean it? brake cleaner, soap water etc?? please no guesses as I do not want to damage the lining.

I don't know about soap and water, but brake cleaner will not harm the disk. I have cleaned many this way. The only thing I would be worried about is weather the fluid has soaked in to deep to be cleaned completely. As I'm sure you know, it must be completely clean or you will have issues. Slippage, chatter, etc.. I would Call Exedy and see what they recommend.

good advice IMO...

i was taught to lightly clean the disk with brake cleaner before install, but i dont know about a disk that was completely soaked in whatever...

i would honestly just clean it off with brake cleaner and see what happens. if you call exedy, i'm guessing they'll tell you to replace the disk(s). putting time/labor aside, it's free to clean it off and see what happens.

there is really no way to ensure that you get ALL of the TF out of the pores of the cerametallic material. even with brake clean.

You can try it....

But our official recommendation would be to replace the discs.. I know that its not what you want to hear especially when you already have to replace your bellhousing... but realistically its the only way to ensure optimum performance. That TF will be heating up, spinning at high rpm, and working its way out of the disc for quite some time, nicely lubricating the friction surfaces and flywheel...

sorry to be the messenger on this one...

So if you continually have light slippage you don't need to buy a tilton flow control valve.... sweet!
