Z6 or Y8

what? no it doesn't.
anyway, the z6 head has the best ports. they are straight 'tumble' ports, vs. the swirl ports of the y8 head. The y8 head offers better combustion quality and probably better low end torque, but it's negligible (if i had to guess)
the y8 has the best combustion chamber shape. If i had to pick, well, i used to say use whatever head is easier to adapt to you car, mostly limited to the distributor for your car because the dizzy's between the two heads don't mate to each other (the arms for the dizzy bolts will be mismatched), however, i've since realized that you can simply switch the insides and run whatever you want to either head.
z6 head has more potential than the y8 head. you can't straighten the offset ports of the y8 head and that is a big problem if you are looking for the best flow.
not sayin it can't make power, because it can, but it's got a low ceiling vs. the z6 head.

Id have to agree.
Dont get it twisted though, both heads flow like ****
I like the z6 head more w/ a Y8 Intake Manifold

wtf are you talking about. Y5 maybe.
wtf are you talking about. Y5 maybe.
i have never heard of the y5. i know of the y7 and y8 and i heard that the y8 head. ive heard so many people talk about roller rockers in some sort of d16, which i thought was a y8. i might be wrong but someone correct me then.

o i forgot all about the hx... but i just looked at a y8 head and rolled that little roller rocker thingy there. so i am still convinced that the y8 heads have roller rockers.

Do I have to switch my distributor i have d15b7?
Im ordering d16z6 head, gasket set, p28 ecu, vtec wiring, d16y8 intake manifold,
timing belt, and a new distributor if i have to

hmm, good question; i used to know this but not anymore; if i had to guess, i'd say it would not work because i believe the arms don't line up, but i'm not 100%.
anyone?

NOt sure if anyone brought it up yet or not, but the y-series have known bottom end oiling issues.
Fairly easy to resolve, but just another thing to take into account

i know the pump doesn't flow as much on paper, but i've had a stock spec pump in my built y8 this entire time, about 4.5 years, and had no problems. I also used a stock spec pump in my y7 for about 4 years in the built y7 before this engine and had no oil starvation issues.
i just dunno about this, i guess i'm lucky but i'd still not recommend against building with one. Maybe it's an issue that surfaces under high g's or something...
I guess "Toga" makes a higher volume pump, you might be able to modify the OE one but i'm not sure how effective it'd actually be....

With a z6 head? You'll have to get a new housing or hack yours up. With a y8 head, it should work.

The d16y8 does not have roller rockers...the vtec-e(economy) head has roller rockers but the D16y8 head is better.
