Default Problem after valve lash

My car has been surging from 1 to 2 rpms and i checked all obvious signs fitv iacv and vaccum. Someone suggested valve lash adjustment.. Even though my friend sean adjusted them 2 months ago,i knew they were still bad and they have a tick to them. I decided to do this one myself. I first checked cylinder 1. Then went to adjust 3 to tdc and found one that seemed pretty loose. I decided i got in over my head, put everything back together and started up the car. It not idles really rough and the smell of gas is pretty strong. Tell me what i did wrong and how to fix it

your iacv will do that idle up and down if your coolant is low

OK make sure your car is COLD when you adjust the valves. I think that might be your problem. No one adjusts the valves when the car has ran. The car has to be sitting over night before you touch em.

not long enough. it's gotta sit overnight,

and what specs are you using?

remember, the adjustment order is

1342

so, with the cam gear "0" or up mark up, you can adjust intake and exhaust of the first cylinder. turn the crank so the cam gear turns a 1/4 turn, then do the int and ex for 3, and so on and on...
