Default RC51 riders- need help

Yesterday i was riding on the beltway doing about 90 in 5th gear when the bike all of sudden hipcupped and the my speed want down to 75. as i was pulling off to the side of the beltway, the bike began chugging and jerky me forward. i have a motorcycle mechanic friend who was riding and she had no idea, she has the same bike. so we decided to get back on the belway-nothing happned. went to a cousins house and was heading home when it did it again. all of sudden the rpms went from 5,000 to 0 then 0 to 5000rpms. Once again chugging and jerking me around. the FI light was coming on at the same time when all this was happening. finally we get to her house and the bike could barely stay at 1500 to idle. you could hear it chugging and gasping for fuel or air. and the FI was going on and off.

i had a full tank of gas in the bike. this doesnt happen in turns or twisty road, it happnened on the beltway.

what do u think is wrong?
does honda have a box that they can plug in,like a car, to read the codes? eventhough the light is coming on and off?
thanks guys. MIKE

do you have a manual? usually the FI light blinks in sequences that will tell you the problem.

I bet you have a PCII.
And i would assume if your FI light is going off that you have an FI problem. If you have a manual, check the blink code. If not, check rc51.com

Bad tank of gas. The RC's are real sensitive to that, for some reason or another - this happened to me twice when I owned mine.

Drain the tank, and refill with new gas and it will go away.

Phucking shitboxes.

My RC was a total piece of ****. Every time i see one I want to go kick it out of spite.

The F4i is faster, handles better and a lot easier to ride. expletive a RC.

Yep. Count the number of times the FI light blinks, once you know this number, you can look it up and it will tell you exactly what the problem is.

I have the service manual burned to a CD at home. Let me know the code and I can look it up for you if you don't have a manual.

If the FI light goes out when the sputtering stops, there wont be any stored codes.

Sounds like a loose battery connection, double check them.

I think if the battery connections are loose the bike would just die, that's what mine did.

And it wouldnt restart.... the battery on the RC is way too small for a big twin, IMHO.

Add that to my list of gripes

Uhm... ok... have fun with that. Bring tools to lift up the gas tank and drain it too. Only takes about 10 minutes.

checked the battery today and the connections were fine. it is kinda hard to count the number of times the fi light comes on when you are on the beltway slowing down and trying to get off to the shoulder.

maybe fuel filter or injector?
what should i do next?

Drained the tank, put dry gas in, and added new gas to it. ran fine. had it idle for 5 mins to get the FI light to come on and also opened the throttle up. once again the light never came back on.

the old gas we took out. nothing out of the usual, no water and no dirt.

havent gotten to ride the beltway or street, was at work, but the mechanic this should take care of it.

what do u you guys think? should i take it to the dealer tomorrow or just cancel and wait to see if it happens again?

If you havent ridden it yet, how do you know if it needs to go to the shop?
