Default New tranny or rebuild this one??

Okay, here's the deal...I bought an '88 Si with 277k on it, motor purrs but the tranny is noisier than HELL in first gear. If I take off from a stop with a bit more gas, the noise pretty much goes away....if I take off normally (old lady like) then the noise is back.
No clicking while turning but I do have alot of play bteween taking up drive and letting off the gas.
Also there's a bit of bearing or gear noise when sitting still idling, with the clutch engaged. (goes away when clutch is pushed in)

Any ideas???

New or rebuild this one??

I would say get a new one. Because rebuilding a tranny isnt a walk in the park.

No I havent rebuilt a tranny yet. Most people just stay away from it all together because of the amount of gears and parts needing to be in the perfect spot or it gets messed up. So if you feel you can do it, then by all means go for it.
