Default gm synchromesh

just changed out my honda mtf for some gm synchromesh... and it is a night and day difference... i change my tranny fluid once a year and average 4-5k per mtf change.. prior to switching fluids i would occasionally get the typical 3rd gear grind... now it shifts like butter with less notchiness.. for gm synchromesh... just thought i would share my experience

gm synchromesh mtf.. does not state that it is friction modified

i may try the friction modified next time around.. but the regular stuff seems to be working excellent

if you don't get the one with the friction modifiers, just buy the pennzoil synchromesh fluid; they make it for GM, and it's much cheaper.

i payed dealer cost for my synchromesh... but for the average joe the penzoil synchromesh is prolly cheaper than walking into the chebby stealership to pick up a few quarts.

and for the results it is well worth the money spent.. hell if it cost $100 for the service, it is still money well spent.. but cheaper is better

Good Info for the future!

About how much does the Pennzoil Synchromesh cost? I think the GM stuff is around $11/quart w/o friction modifier.

It's around $6-7 for a bottle of Pennzoil Syncromesh at any local Kragen or Autozone.

I'll add my vouch here .. I had the infamous 3rd gear grind on my 01 ITR so I tried the GM Synchromesh FM. The grinds are completely gone and the tranny shifts butter-sweet at any gear or rpm.

i just stopped working for GM (chevy dealership). I can vouch for the MTF fluid, and especially their rear fluid. We would change peoples rears with mobil one synthetic 75w90, and the rears would always be loud and wine, then we would change them with GM 75w90, and it was quiet and was very smooth. It doesnt surprise me the GM fluid helped.

I think i'll change my Spec V's trans fluid with GM stuff, I just changed it with Nissan OEM mtf fluid, and hardly made a difference on my 3rd gear problem. Its not a severe problem to say my trans/synchro is going, so a good fluid change will do the change.

NorthernXposure, how is the Altima SE-R, I really love the looks of them things, whats your opinion on it?

I changed over to the friction modified and it made no difference whatsoever.
