my setup. 92 eg hatch bone stock ls-vtec. stock b18 b1 block with b16 head. itr dual valve springs and itr cams, itr manifold with professional products throttle 65mm throttle body, rc 370cc injectors, pro fab tri-y headers, and gs-r LSD tranny, 80 shot wet nitrous. best time of 12.4. dyno @ 254 horse and 194 torque. think i can do better but as of right now 12.4 is the best. all motor i made 192 horse and 132 torque. this is all stock. some people say i can break into the high 11's with this setup. but i don't know see if i can.
you can do it with 250 whp, and there are tons of ways you can go to get there.
turbo/ n/a /supercharger/ nitrous. thats up to you
you can do that with any b series motor without ripping it apart if you use any forced induction so long as its healthy

outside of motor choice.....how will the car be set up? street or strip? Its a lot more than just engine choice...there is suspension set up, turbo/NA, and most of all.....driving skills.

Everybody has there very own theory about using what motor...for example...Erickracing and Chad Barber use B-series....which i think there going to K now...but still on top of the game is Bisi Moto F series (SOHC) 9s all day...
If your car weighs less than 2200lbs., you can easily go 12's with less than 200whp. Now, whichever way you go about making that power (All motor, turbo, spray) is your decision.

or you can stick with a cheep set-up like i am building. i am useing the d16a6 and boosting it and looking for about 350 at the wheels for about $2000. but, then you have alot mor to think about if you go faster than 12's. like cage and all the safty stuff. lose weight and work the suspension first... the d series motors can make decent hp with a lttle work and reaserch for cheap. i had a h22a1 i was going to use. but, scraped the idea after figureing out it would cost more then $3000 to rebuild it and boost it and install it into my crx.

no, its h22 that mounts to any b series tranny. nice huh? alot of people are claiming 12's from stock h2b's. i still have not see one run yet though.
Good input so far, but to make it really simple:
1) do the math and get an idea of the power you need to hit your ET target. You can use a calculator like this and fudge it up a bit to account for fwd. Don't forget to include your own weight in the calculations. ; )
http://www.mustangworks.com/index.cfm/page_id/8
2) decide the most reasonable drivetrain for getting to that power level (given budget and overall use of the car). If you are new to this (no disrespect) you should also take into account the complexity of the build (e.g. moderate versin of one motor vs aggressive version of another motor).
I myself favor moderate turbo builds for any car that will be driven on the street daily, as they give you stock highway milage, great driveability in traffic, but also have the power to do what you want at the track.
Best of luck with your project.

ive decided im going turbo and about 400hp
i bought the ef as a runnaround but im gona sell my 300hp 99 em1 and plough most of the money into the ef
ive done a bit of research and so far 400hp seems fine for stock sleeves so it gona be a b18c4 with b16a2 head (or type r if i can get one) built bottom end but stock sleeves
stripped and caged
still researching turbo kit but i do like the look of top mounts
and cams and valve train i aint sure on either but i know id like to rev it high

If you plan on 400whp with stock sleeves, be certain to use a decent EMS and have someone reputable to perform the tuning. For a DD, I would go conservative (11.5 AFR). Lean is mean but rich is safe.

a b18c4 isnt a type r engine its from a 5 door hatch back
sorry only pic i could find is of a crashed one

and this civic aerodeck
wheels are photoshopped

it produces 168bhp in stock form and i think its pretty much the same as the b18c1 that u guys get in america
im gona use the block from one of these and a b16 head as it flows better or a type r head as it flows better again and will also give me the cams etc

my buddy built a h22 ef hatch ran 12.55 @ 107 this was in a street car and a stock motor ex. header and intake. on the dyno it put down 178hp and 140tq. good luck with your project.
