Please help me remove headlight covers on 2001 Civic EX
I've bought some stuff at an autoparts store that is supposed to help clear the haze and yellow/white cloudiness from the inside of my headlight covers. And guess what - my owner's manual tells me how to change a headlight bulb - no removal of cover required - but not how to change/remove the headlight cover. Can anyone help me? This is my first post - new to the site - but couldn't find this topic already covered. I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX. Thanks in advance!
It's been covered before, but I'll lend you a hand.
If you're going to remove the actual housings, you'll have to remove the bumper to access the two front bolts. There's two more on top of the lights themselves, which are easy to point out.
Once removed, you'll have to remove the 5 retainer clips (per housing) on the casings, so that after the next step, they won't cause you problems. Next, you'll want to put the oven on to 185 degrees and put each housing in separately. This is done to heat up the existing sealant, so that the housings are easy to split. Once you've let one housing sit in the oven for about 5 minutes, you'll want to remove it carefully and just pry the housing apart using force, or if necessary, a small flathead screwdriver. Rinse and repeat on the other housing.
Now, when you put them back together, you'll need to add some sealant to the existing stuff, so you don't get the dreaded "headlight fog". I used clear High Temp. Silicone that's used for sealing Fireplaces. It's been well over a year, and no problems and/or "fogging".
Best of luck to ya'.

i recently did my DIY black housing lights.. i didnt stuff then in the oven i was scared of leaving it in ther at high temp... well anyways what i did was i used my HEAT gun and put it around and slowly peel it. it works great because it melts the glue as you peal and it leaves the glue in tact without having the huge line mess
