Default Wheel Spacer calculator?

I own an 07 Civic EX Sedan. The rims are the 16's with a 205/55/16 tire size. I recently put on my summer rims/tires from my old car which are 17 x 7.5 rims (40mm offset) with 225/45/17 tires. They look great, unfortunately there is wheel rub occurring.

Does anyone know what size wheel spacer can solve this problem or if there is some kind of calculator out there can do that for me? Thanks.

ps. I don't know the offset on the stock rim if that matters.

If you put spacers on it will cause it to rub even more. The wheels will be pushed even further out the side of the car and the fenders will rub.

Are you lowered?

Ex's need 3mm spacers just to run OEM 17x7 si wheels.
Maybe you need the same

go to a local hobby store and get some WATER based paints ( that dont stain and wash off)

Take off the wheel that is rubbing and put that paint on the interior TIRE and RIM.

drive around until it rubs.. remove rim.. and check to see where the paint is.

If that doesnt work... try the exterior edge of the tire .

Check that offset again b/c according to 8thcivic people run 17x7.5 et 38 w/1.5inch drop and 17x8 in lower and higher offsets.
You shouldnt rub with what you run.

+40 didn't seem very tucked in to me.

You could always check the fender liner, its usually pretty easy to figure out where the rubbing is.

Thanks for all the info. A few things were strange about the whole thing to begin with. #1, the noise and feel did not occur all the time and it was only on the front left side. This was suspicious to begin with. When I took my car to a customs guy he agreed that the wheel had enough clearance and that he didn't think there was any wheel rub. He then examined the tire and found it to be somewhat warped!... Now this started to make more sense; the irregular thumping, the fact that it was only the front left.... I don't have the $ for a brand new set of summer tires so I plan on just rotating the front left with the back left tire and hopefully the less weight on the back will mute the noise a little. BTW, if anyone is wondering, the tires are Kumho Ecsta Supra 712, and the customs guy wasn't surprised as this brand has a poor rep apparantly.

Cheers
