what size tires for 16" rims?
i bought some 16" rims that are 7" wide for my 93 del sol. what size tires should i run? i know 205-40-16 are the exact same circumference as the original tire size but these tires look a little small in the wheel well on a lowered car. on the other hand i heard that if i run a 205-45-16 that it will restrict the way i can drive the car and mess up the handling becuase its not the same size as the original tire. is this true? which size tire should i get?

Definitely keep the same circumference wheel overall. Changing the wheel/tire profile in the name of looks is not a good idea... You will throw off your spedometer amongst other things...

Re: what size tires for 16" rims?
I ended up using 195/45/16.
I like having my car's stance where the tire and fenderwell just meet. Due to the offset of my 16" wheels (+37mm) and my camber being almost straight, they are flush to the side of the car. But with 195/45/16, I can keep the stance that I have for the car and not worry about rubbing when I go over bumps/potholes or turning. Plus it has just a little more meat than a 205/40/16 tire.
I know that this size tire might not be the optimal tire in terms of being close to the same diameter of the OEM tire, but this is perfect for me in terms of having enough sidewall, but still be able to daily drive with it and not worry about shredding up my tire, or inner fenderwell.

Well, from what I read, the difference in circumference between 175/70/13 and 195/45/16 is only 1.16%. So if I was going 70mph in a 175/70/13 tire, I'm really going 70.81mph in a 195/45/16 tire. So I don't think that it's a huge difference between the two.

im not concerned about the speedo being off, im just wondering if it will negatively effect the handling or alignment geometry of the car. kulo - im not concerned about rim size i wondering about tire size. what size tires are those on your car? by the way that **** looks hot, just not feeling the wing.

I have 205/40R16 Coopers on my 16x7 Konig Remembers (+20mm offset). Those tires are not too bad because they still look brand new even though it's been almost a year old.

Not to bring up an old thread, but... I too run 205/40/16 on +42 offset. It looks great, but i dont have ANY racing comps available for my tire size..
Can anyone shed some light on any possibilities? 50 treadwear is the minimum for my race class.
