Default :::RIDER DOWN:::

its 3am, i just got home from a long night. we were riding on a back road here in NE, some guy i met last night was with us. hes been riding for all of about 2 weeks now and wouldn't you know, a FU**ING DEER JUMPS OUT INTO THE ROAD!!! he his it at somewhere between 40 and 50mph I hit my breaks, as sparks are flying up in to the air about 5 feet in front of me. i managed to save my self and my bike after locking up the front tire a little but he on the other hand got a little beat up. got a hole on the top of his foot about the size of a pencil eraser. knees a little scraped up along with his knuckles where the gloves wore through. he looked rather OK but when he said something about having stomach pain we called 911 and hes at the hospital now. I think he was ok (sort of). ill post an update with some pictures when i get some. BTW, the bike was a 06' ninja 500

I hope he turns out OK. Internal injuries are nothing to joke about. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Do you know what kind of gloves he was wearing? It'd be nice to start a "really, don't buy these" list of stuff that just isn't up to par on quality (or a list of stuff that IS).

ok so i talked to him early this morning and hes ok! they still had to X-ray his leg but i would bet money his leg isn't broken. he was wearing some skate shoes that had not one scratch on them. but because of those shoes he now has a small hole in his foot.

Jeans held up EXTREMELY WELL!!! i still cant believe it. i mean fallen off my bicycle when i was a kid and got much worse road rash then he did.

Thin white under shirt with a non riding nylon jacket the held up much better then the jeans did. it didn't any holes just scratches.

his gloves were some thin motocross gloves. then got scratched to the limit and just barley wore through.

his helmet was a cheep HJC thats done! it saved his life for sure. the visor cracked and the hole thing is scratched to SHT!

As far as the bike, right side exhaust is done. Wore through the stock exhaust in one small spot. the rear break lever is done and the fairing is unrepairable. found out he didnt have insurance! (IDIOT!) he got lucky cuz those fairings don't look like they cost too much.

his is green but this it what they look like

he got the wind knocked out of him pretty good. so im thinking the deer slowed him down enough that the road didnt do too much damage. looking at it more i think the hole in his foot was caused by the end of the peg when the bike fell over. you know the little thing that sticks out?

I'm gonna go ahead and doubt it... I've heard of people hitting deer with astrovans and the deer getting up and scampering off...

Oh they teach it, it's the country full of retarded kids we've got that don't remember it. I never understood how anybody could get a 17 on the ACT (for anyone unfamiliar, the ACT is a midwestern exam used for a similar purpose as the SAT, high possible score is 36) when it covers the bare basic minimum requirements for graduating high school. And yet these kids still manage to get a diploma and go on to college. I'll be 20 years old in less than a month, I would be a sophomore in college if I had chosen to go, and one of my friends not too long ago asked me what a preposition is. Frightening and sad.

Im teaching DVMT 100 (Developmental Math) in college next semester and it is the equivilant of Algebra 2. The pass rate is about 70%. The pass rate for DVMT 095 (equivalent of 7th grade math) is about 55%. Ouch.

Speedy Recovery!
