i have seen 'palm sander' in several threads here:
sanding blocks > palm sander.
i have a DA but i did all the bodywork and sanding on my corvette w/ sanding blocks. durablock > all.
this is fact.
if you are just getting started pick these up as opposed to a electric orbital sander or a DA the runs off your compressor.

I don't really like sanding blocks, i used to always use thick paint paddles wrapped in sandpaper... for dry or wet sanding.
It's all about what makes you comfortable doing the job... but for finishing sanding a d/a sander is a bad idea, blocksanding is called that for a reason.

you know except for when you suck at spraying clear (not me...just saying about others I know) and you get mad orange peel...yea its alot easier to use 3M's scuffing and buffing system on the DA than to block wet sand the entire car or panel. Goes alot quicker when you can just 1500 grit DA, 3000 grit wet DA...then go right to buff.

i'd say it really depends upon the shape of the body panels. i am a firm believer that you can get a straighter finish wet sanding by hand vs DA. it is very time consuming but worth it imo...

ive noticed this allso ,a palm sander is not a block sander ,this is going to mix people up when going to buy there first set of auto body stuff ,i have all the dura block block sanders and i live by them in my oppinon ,just useing a da or orbital sander ,your going to be left with waves in the work ,thats why you block after.
and you dont just get orange peel from your clear,you can allso have nasty orange peel in your paint if its not mixed right

First, you should NEVER use a DA for sanding filler unless feather edging it. And what do you mean orange peel from not mixing your paint right? Theres only two ways to mix your paint. Either its right or its wrong. If your talking about how much reducer you put in...then yes...and also gun setup. The majority of orange peel is in the clear. You have to totally be a noob if your getting orange peel bad in the base.

You can't peel base. That's super hard to do.

chris, I wanted to purchase a set on eBay and save 10 bucks but your link comes with a bar of soap, do I need that haha. So I just wrap different grits of sandpaper around the blocks and do all my work with it?

i buy rolls of paper. they have adheasive on the back and stick to the block.
finer grit i buy as sheets and just wrap the block.

i just rapped sandpaper around the block
i jsut got the packets of liek 4 sheets of sandpaper its cheaper than buyign the ones with sticky;s on the backside

If you are inexperianced then you dont want to use a palm sander....Back in school our teacher would never let us use one. So I got kinda used to always using my hand to sand.
I'm at work right now otherwise I'd post pics of the sides of my car and why you SHOULDN'T EVER use a DA sander to do "finish" type work...that's why i'm gonna be redoing my quarter panels and doors with block and board sanders.
